Field Robotics Engineering Intern
Location: New York City (On-site at customer buildings)
Type: Part-Time / Full-Time Internship

About the Role
Trionyx is looking for a hands-on Field Robotics Engineering Intern to assist with the deployment, setup, and daily operation of our commercial cleaning robot systems across NYC. This role is perfect for students or early-career individuals who want real-world robotics experience and enjoy working directly in the field with physical hardware.
You will work alongside senior robotics engineers to set up robots, diagnose issues, test performance, and support customers in real buildings such as offices, schools, residential complexes, and gyms.
This is practical, hands-on engineering work, not a desk-only internship.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with delivery, installation, and configuration of robots
- Perform basic LiDAR mapping and help with navigation setup
- Calibrate docking stations and charging bases
- Support integration with building environments (e.g., cleaning zones, schedules)
- Troubleshooting & Testing
- Conduct tests: navigation accuracy, obstacle detection, cleaning performance
- Identify basic hardware issues: sensors, wheels, cables, battery health
- Perform simple repairs (tightening screws, replacing brushes/filters, cleaning sensors)
- Log technical issues and escalate advanced problems to engineers
- Demonstrate robot operation to building staff
- Respond to basic service calls and help keep robots running smoothly
- Monitor cleaning cycles and adjust settings when needed
- Collect feedback from customers and maintenance teams
- Record deployment steps and troubleshooting actions
- Update robot checklists, configuration sheets, and maintenance logs
- Assist in preparing summary reports for senior engineers
Requirements
Technical Skills
- Interest in robotics, engineering, or technology
- Basic understanding of mechanical or electrical concepts is helpful
- Comfortable using apps, dashboards, or diagnostic tools
- Ability to follow technical instructions and manuals
Field Requirements
- Willing to travel across NYC to customer sites
- Comfortable working in offices, residential buildings, and commercial facilities
- Able to handle hands-on equipment work (light tools, cleaning parts, etc.)
- No heavy lifting requirement
Soft Skills
- Good communication with customers and engineering teams
- Responsible, reliable, and willing to learn
- Able to work independently at job sites
- Positive attitude toward hands-on problem-solving
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience with robotics clubs (VEX, FRC, FTC, etc.)
- Basic computer or coding knowledge
- Familiarity with sensors, LiDAR, or mechatronics
- Previous exposure to field service or technical support
