Job Description

Job summary

The sales & technical support engineer (ventilation fans) will combine technical expertise in ventilation fan products with customer-facing sales support activities. This role will manage technical enquiries, prepare accurate quotations and product configurations, support the sales team through technical input, and ensure excellent post-sale support and handover to operations. The successful candidate will act as a key liaison between customers, sales, engineering and supply chain to deliver timely, compliant and cost-effective ventilation fan solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Respond to technical and commercial enquiries for ventilation fans, including axial, centrifugal and mixed-flow types, by analysing requirements and recommending appropriate products and configurations.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate technical quotations and proposals that include product specifications, performance data, sizing calculations, installation requirements, lead times and commercial terms.
  • Collaborate with sales representatives, project managers and customers to scope projects, develop product selection options and provide technical advice during the pre-sales phase.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation such as datasheets, wiring diagrams, fan curves, performance calculations, installation guidance and test/commissioning checklists in line with company standards.
  • Maintain accurate records in the CRM and ERP systems: log enquiries, track quotations, update order status and support forecasting and reporting activities.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing to obtain technical clarifications, lead time updates, costing and to arrange special builds or modifications when required.
  • Provide technical support to site teams and customers during delivery, installation and commissioning; troubleshoot faults, suggest remedial actions and escalate complex issues to engineering where necessary.
  • Support after-sales activities including spare parts identification, warranty assessments, defect resolution and preparation of service recommendations.
  • Participate in product training, technical demonstrations and client meetings; support business development by identifying upsell and cross-sell opportunities.
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant regulations, health & safety requirements and internal quality procedures.

Required skills & competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge of ventilation fans, smoke management systems, controls and associated accessories; ability to interpret fan curves, system pressure losses and performance characteristics.
  • Experience preparing technical quotations and product specifications for B2B customers, ideally in HVAC, industrial ventilation or related sectors.
  • Good understanding of electrical and mechanical installation principles relevant to low-voltage motors and fan assemblies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using CRM/ERP systems; familiarity with fan selection software or engineering calculation tools is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to customers, installers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise and manage multiple enquiries in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer-focused attitude with commercial awareness and the ability to identify sales opportunities while delivering technically sound solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams; adaptable and resilient under pressure.

Qualifications & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, HVAC, or a related discipline, or demonstrable industry experience.
  • Minimum 2–5 years’ experience in technical sales support, application engineering or product support within ventilation, HVAC or related industrial equipment sectors.
  • Previous exposure to manufacturing, supplier liaison and order management processes is desirable.
