Job Description

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Paystack’s mission is to power African ambition. Over 300,000 businesses across Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, and Kenya use Paystack’s modern payments gateway, including Qatar Airways, UPS, AXA Mansard Insurance, Greenspoon, Jumia, Kenpoly, Old Mutual, and many others.

Over the last 10 years, we’ve built products that have helped shape online payments in Africa, from automated recurring payments to direct bank payments and automated chargebacks. Acquired by Stripe in 2020, the company has grown payment volume more than twelvefold since then and is now expanding deliberately beyond payments into banking, consumer finance, and cross-border infrastructure as part of The Stack Group (TSG), a family of technology brands building modern infrastructure across payments, banking, consumer products, and emerging technologies.

At Paystack, we hire talented people, treat them with genuine respect, and give them the space, resources, and support to do the best work of their lives. And we’d love your help!

ABOUT THE ROLE

Paystack Kenya has reached this point through product quality, developer trust, and the personal commercial relationships of a small founding team. Those relationships have produced some of our most significant wins on the continent. This is the first dedicated Sales Lead role in Kenya. You will be responsible for building the structures, relationships, and repeatable processes that take Paystack from a brand developers & businesses love to one that enterprises across every major sector depend on.

The role sits at the centre of a genuine inflection point. You will work in close partnership on the deals that define our market position, while independently owning the pipeline, the segments, and the motion that makes growth predictable.

This is not an execution role inside an established system. It is a builder role at a company that has the product, the infrastructure, and the brand to win meaningfully in Kenya. What it needs now is the person who can make that happen.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Establish and own Paystack Kenya’s sales motion across our priority segments (e.g. airlines & travel, education, hospitality, financial services, FMCG). From the first conversation to signed deals and long-term growth, the full cycle is yours.
  • Define how we win in Kenya—translating company strategy into clear priorities, pipeline focus, and targets that actually drive results.
  • Build and maintain a strong, high-quality pipeline and forecast, with a clear view of what’s coming next and what it will take to close.
  • Develop deep, trusted relationships with senior decision-makers (founders, CFOs, CTOs, CEOs) at the kinds of businesses that will define Paystack’s position in Kenya. This is thoughtful, long-term relationship building alongside active deal execution.
  • Work closely with leadership on our most important opportunities, bringing your commercial instincts, local context, and network to the deals that matter most.
  • Build the sales frameworks, messaging, and materials that make our commercial motion repeatable. Part of the role is learning how to tell the Paystack story clearly and persuasively across very different industries.
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Risk, Legal, and Support to shape solutions, navigate trade-offs, and get deals over the line the right way.
  • Develop partnerships and platform relationships that embed Paystack into key ecosystems—especially across SME and e-commerce distribution.
  • Represent Paystack externally with the presence and credibility the brand deserves—across industry events, partner conversations, and executive forums.

WHAT YOU HAVE

  • Ownership & Judgment: Act as the accountable commercial lead for Paystack Kenya, making clear, well-judged decisions in ambiguous situations and taking responsibility for outcomes.
  • Commercial Execution: 7+ years of experience in enterprise sales, business development, or account management, with a track record of owning and delivering against revenue targets.
  • Comfortable managing complex, multi-stakeholder deals end-to-end.
  • Market Insight & Relationships: Genuine roots in the Kenyan market, with a network that opens doors and a clear understanding of how enterprise decisions are actually made.
  • Communication & Influence: Can communicate Paystack’s value simply and persuasively, both internally and externally, and are comfortable engaging senior stakeholders (founders, CFOs, CTOs, CEOs).
  • Product & Payments Fluency: Credible in technical and commercial conversations—understands APIs, integrations, and the realities of selling and implementing payment products.
  • Deal Craft & Sales Discipline: Bring structure to the sales process (pipeline management, forecasting, CRM hygiene) while intuitively knowing how to move deals forward and find strong commercial outcomes.
  • Builder’s Mindset: Experience operating in high-growth or early-stage environments, and is energized by building—creating structure, shaping playbooks, and establishing how things should work.
  • Executive Presence & Values Alignment: Represents Paystack with credibility in high-stakes settings, while consistently reflecting our culture and values in how they prepare, communicate, make decisions, and follow through.

BONUS POINTS IF YOU

  • Bring prior experience in payments or a closely adjacent fintech business
  • Have experience in one of our priority sectors, particularly aviation and travel or education, where procurement relationships take time to build, and existing access accelerates everything.
  • Are a Kenyan professional who has built commercial careers at international fintech companies and are now returning home.
  • The combination of local roots and international practice is rare and highly relevant to what we are building.
