Our client is a small biotech start-up focused on neurodegeneration. They are looking for a driven and detail-focused Scientist - Discovery Biology to contribute to their work on aging and retinal assay systems.

Salary/Hourly Rate

$105k - $140k, Depending on experience

Position Overview

This Scientist - Discovery Biology position centers on studying the biological processes behind aging and retinal degeneration, supporting a broader pipeline of programs targeting neurodegenerative conditions. You will take responsibility for core experimental workflows and assay development using rodent models and ex vivo tissue samples. The role involves producing high-quality molecular, cellular, and imaging data to inform therapeutic development efforts. It is well-suited for a Scientist who excels in hands-on, translational research and takes pride in building reliable, reproducible assays that can be applied across multiple projects.

Responsibilities Of The Scientist - Discovery Biology

  • The Scientist - Discovery Biology will develop, refine, and validate assays focused on aging and retinal biology to support multiple research efforts.
  • Manage retinal tissue workflows, including dissection, processing, staining, and degeneration analysis.
  • Design and execute in vivo and ex vivo studies using rodent models and relevant tissue systems.
  • Perform imaging and molecular assays, integrating data into meaningful biological insights.
  • The Scientist - Discovery Biology will analyze data, maintain detailed records, and contribute to reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Support lab operations, including colony coordination, literature review, collaboration, and maintaining safety standards.

Required Experience/Skills for the Scientist - Discovery Biology:

  • 1 year minimum of applied research experience in the biotech or pharma industry.
  • Strong molecular and cellular biology background.
  • Must have hands-on rodent models and tissue-based workflows experience.
  • Must have experience with ocular/retinal tissue.
  • Experience in immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, PCR/qPCR, and Western blotting.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Scientist - Discovery Biology:

  • Experience with ocular disease or a related field.
  • Experience aging biology or age-associated tissue changes in rodents.

Education Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, Pharmacology, or a related field is required.
