Job Description
Discovery Biotherapeutics at AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join our dynamic team supporting biologics drug discovery and multispecifics engineering. This position will contribute to projects through the discovery and engineering of biopharmaceutical products.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in antibody and multispecifics design and production, molecular biology, and have knowledge of antibody fragments and mimetics. Additional desirable skills include expertise in antibody engineering, protein purification, and familiarity with sequence analysis tools. The candidate should be able to analyze, document, and report data, possess excellent communication skills, and feel comfortable presenting in group settings.
Qualifications
BS or MS in biology or related discipline with typically 7+ years (BS), or 5+ years (MS) of pharmaceutical and/or relevant experience
Protein, biologics, fragments, and multi-specifics purification
Mammalian cell culture for protein expression
In vitro analytical techniques for protein characterization (e.g. SEC, MS, DSF)
Strong molecular biology skills (e.g. molecular cloning)
Familiarity with sequence analysis tools (Vector NTI, Geneious, Genedata)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to execute on multiple projects simultaneously
Team player capable of operating in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, adapting to rapid changes in project priorities and timelines
Proficiency with software programs including MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with antibody engineering, design, and optimization
Experience overseeing CROs for DNA and protein production
Hands-on experience with SEC, HIC, IEX purification of complex biologics utilizing AKTA platforms
Experience utilizing automation (e.g. Hamilton, AssayMap, Kingfisher) equipment in biologics discovery processes
Proficiency in mass spectrometry interpretation for complex biologics
Proficiency with software programs: Geneious, Genedata, Unicorn
