Job Description

As a Senior Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer (Specializing in Titanium Alloys) you will play a pivotal role in our engineering team. You will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and implementing advanced mechanical systems involving titanium alloys, utilizing your deep understanding of material behavior and characterization. Your innovative mindset and problem-solving skills will help drive projects from concept through execution, ensuring the highest levels of performance and reliability.

You will report directly to our Senior Engineering Manager, and you’ll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a hybrid work schedule.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Design and optimize billet conversion processes through finite element modeling and thermomechanical processing for titanium alloys.
  • Conduct advanced material characterization using techniques such as EBSD, SEM, EDS, FIB-EBSD, and Micro-CT to understand the microstructure and behavior of titanium alloys.
  • Lead failure analysis on critical rotating components made of Ni, Co, Ti, or Fe alloys.
  • Perform mechanical testing of materials including hardness, tension, compression, fatigue, and creep analysis.
  • Develop and apply materials modeling techniques, including constitutive modeling and integrated computational materials engineering (ICME).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and lead research initiatives to meet strategic objectives and deliver results.
  • Mentor junior engineers and research assistants in advanced materials science and characterization methods.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
  • Proven experience in materials characterization and failure analysis of aerospace-grade metals, particularly titanium alloys and nickel superalloys.
  • Proficient in thermomechanical processing, additive manufacturing, and failure analysis techniques.
  • Strong skills in materials modeling software (DEFORM, Thermo-Calc, ABAQUS) and programming languages (Python, Fortran).
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration within interdisciplinary teams.

  • Background in crystal plasticity modeling and experience with practical application in industrial settings.
  • Experience leading research projects and collaborating with academic institutions.
  • Familiarity with process-microstructure-property relationship in various alloys produced by additive manufacturing.
