Senior AI Platform Engineer with Agentic AI & Model Context Protocol (MCP)

Location: Preferred local candidates but open to 100% remote working EST HOURS

This is a long term contract. Open to W2 and CTC Contractors.

This role supports AthenaHealth's Internal Developer Platform (IDP) by enabling developers and improving the overall development experience and R&D productivity. The focus is on introducing agentic AI capabilities into existing developer workflows in a practical, production-ready way. This is an enablement role, not a product role.

Responsibilities

• Improve unit test coverage
• Build and maintain MCP servers, particularly in support of Jenkins and CI/CD pipelines
• Develop and deploy AI agents to clean up code and improve unit test coverage
• Start with one agent solution and expand once patterns and value are proven

Required Skills / Qualifications

• Agentic AI experience is critical. Candidates who have built agentic AI solutions and can deliver quickly while upskilling the team through real implementation
• Subject-matter expert in agentic AI
• MCP familiarity – understanding how to set up and run MCP servers

Current Technical Focus

• Building and maintaining MCP servers, particularly in support of:
• Jenkins
• CI/CD pipelines
• Building AI agents to:
• Clean up code
• Improve unit test coverage
