Are you ready to make a meaningful impact in the insurance industry? Join our dedicated team as we not only provide coverages and policies but strive to shape the future. We are seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Analyst in Catastrophe Risk Modeling to enhance our Reinsurance team.

This role focuses on supporting underwriting decisions by offering expertise in catastrophe modeling and exposure management, particularly concerning natural catastrophes like earthquakes, hurricanes, and floods across Latin America and the Caribbean. Additional support for the US and International segments may be required.

You will report directly to the Head of Catastrophe Modeling for Nav Re, collaborating closely with experienced reinsurance underwriters and contributing to our strategic risk assessment capabilities.

This position features a Hybrid work arrangement, requiring in-office work in Coral Gables, FL; Boston, MA; Stamford, CT; or New York, NY three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the catastrophe modeling expert and business partner for our Latin America portfolio.
  • Provide timely catastrophe modeling and analytical support for property treaties in Latin America.
  • Review, validate, and engage proactively with brokers and clients regarding submission data and modeling queries.
  • Maintain regular communication with underwriting teams to align with business needs.
  • Develop and implement innovative reporting and data solutions for effective exposure management.
  • Support catastrophe event response efforts as needed.
  • Collaborate with underwriting and IT to enhance exposure capture processes.
  • Contribute to refining the company's perspective on catastrophe risk.
  • Participate in our 1/1, 4/1, and 7/1 review processes.
  • Work alongside our Enterprise Risk Management team on modeling deliverables and updates year-round.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline data capture and modeling processes using AI or automation.
  • Effectively communicate modeling insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Contribute to the retrocession planning process as necessary.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in property and casualty insurance or reinsurance.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in SQL; familiarity with Python is a plus.
  • Advanced skills in Excel; VBA experience is preferred.
  • Experience with AIR models and the AnalyzeRe platform is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of catastrophe modeling concepts and database structures.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish; fluency is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated interest in leadership development, with a commitment to mentoring and preparing for future leadership roles.

Compensation:

The annualized base pay range for this role is $109,040 - $163,560, based on an analysis of similar positions in the market. Actual base pay may vary based on factors such as performance and competencies. The base pay is only one part of The Hartford's comprehensive total compensation package, which may include bonuses, long-term incentives, and recognition rewards.
