Job Description

This role is responsible for supporting Kinross’ budgeting process, including assisting with the preparation of consolidated budgets and forecasts, analysis to support the validity of budget/forecast results, analysis of actual results against budget and other ad hoc analysis, in support of regular management and other reporting. The role will work closely with the Financial Reporting and Operations Strategy groups to ensure the timely and accurate flow of information from the operating and non-operating sites and the effective and efficient communication of results.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, manage and lead activities related to the preparation of consolidated budgets and forecasts by working with the operating and non-operating sites to ensure submissions are timely and complete.
  • Maintain ownership over the accuracy and completeness of the consolidated budget and forecast models.
  • Prepare, analyze and interpret information of high complexity in relation to budget and forecast results.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the preparation of budget and forecast presentations to senior management.
  • Contribute to the input and review of budget data in the company’s financial systems.
  • Prepare analyses and interpretations for purposes of setting external public guidance.
  • Manage and communicate the weekly tracker of production estimates for all operating sites.
  • Lead the preparation and consolidation of monthly reporting and analysis for internal distribution, including working with operating and non-operating site personnel to interpret and communicate the results.
  • Participate in the presentation of monthly reporting and analysis to senior management.
  • Provide analyses and coordinate the process to support the preparation of the MD&A by the Financial Reporting team and the review of the MD&A by the company’s external auditors.
  • Prepare analyses for inclusion in reports to the Senior Leadership Team, Audit Committee and/or Board.
  • Provide support to the Investor Relations and Corporate Communications teams by preparing and/or reviewing information to be utilized both internally and externally.
  • A key resource to support Site Finance departments as it relates to budgeting and forecasting, monthly and quarterly reporting, application of corporate policies, processes and controls and other finance related issues.
  • Contribute to the development of new processes and procedures, implementation of new technologies or tools where needed, including identifying and acting on gaps and opportunities for improvements to enhance the timeliness and maintain accuracy of current reporting and analysis.
  • Prepare materials and analyses to assess operating site performance against a balance scorecard of objectives.
  • Contribute to non-routine projects and special initiatives within the Finance team.
  • Support capital management processes, including the preparation of various ad hoc capital-related analysis and reports.
  • Actively seeks mentorship and learning to improve technical knowledge and skillset.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate university degree in business / finance or equivalent
  • Professional accounting designation or comparable financial training / education (e.g. CFA, MBA)
  • CPA designation a strong asset
  • Minimum 3-6 years of related work experience or equivalent
  • Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
  • Experience with financial modelling
