Hiring.zycto is on the lookout for a highly skilled and passionate Senior Automation Engineer with a strong industrial background to join our dynamic team in Toronto. You will play a pivotal role in the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and detailed design to commissioning and ongoing support. This involves working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and industrial networking protocols. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex industrial automation systems, including PLC programming (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Electric), HMI/SCADA development, and motion control.
  • Conduct thorough system testing, commissioning, and validation to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Architect and integrate industrial networks (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP) and data acquisition systems.
  • Provide expert technical support and troubleshooting for existing automation systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and clients, throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop detailed engineering documentation, including functional specifications, control narratives, electrical schematics, and test plans.
  • Stay abreast of emerging automation technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory changes to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Participate in client meetings, present technical solutions, and contribute to project proposals and scope definitions.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) and/or Siemens TIA Portal).
  • Extensive experience with HMI/SCADA development (e.g., FactoryTalk View SE/ME, WinCC, Ignition, Wonderware).
  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems, instrumentation, and sensor technologies.
  • Solid knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA).
  • Experience with electrical design principles, control panel design, and interpretation of P&ID diagrams.
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 62061, IEC 61508).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • P.Eng designation or eligibility for P.Eng in Ontario.
  • Experience with robotics and robotic integration.
  • Knowledge of databases (SQL) and data analytics for industrial applications.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for industrial IoT solutions.
  • Project management experience or certification.
