Senior Business Intelligence Engineer

Compensation: $120k-$150K

Location: Hybrid, 3 days onsite in DT Chicago

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to design, develop, and maintain enterprise reporting and

analytics solutions that support data-informed decision-making across the business. This role is focused heavily on

Microsoft Power BI and will be responsible for translating complex business requirements into polished

dashboards, reports, and semantic models that are scalable, governed, and user-friendly. The ideal candidate

brings strong technical depth in Power BI, SQL, DAX, and Power Query, along with the communication skills

needed to partner effectively with business stakeholders and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

" Design, develop, and maintain enterprise dashboards, reports, and interactive visualizations primarily in

Microsoft Power BI

" Build, optimize, and support semantic models, reusable datasets, KPIs, and calculated measures

" Translate business requirements into well-structured technical reporting solutions

" Partner directly with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs, define metrics, and deliver

actionable analytics products

" Connect reporting solutions to modern cloud and enterprise data platforms, including Databricks and

similar environments

" Use SQL, DAX, and Power Query to build performant and accurate reporting outputs

" Support migration and modernization of legacy reporting platforms into a modern Power BI ecosystem

" Collaborate closely with data engineering and architecture teams when new data ingestion or upstream

changes are required

" Apply visualization best practices, data governance standards, security controls, and naming conventions

across reporting assets

" Monitor report performance, refresh reliability, and end-user experience to ensure production-quality

delivery

" Help expand governed self-service analytics capabilities through curated datasets, documentation, and

reusable reporting assets

" Contribute to the ongoing evolution of enterprise analytics standards, tools, and reporting strategy

Required Qualifications

" Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field

" 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and delivering enterprise BI solutions

" Strong expertise in Microsoft Power BI, including dashboard development, semantic modeling, and report

design

" Strong SQL and data querying skills

" Hands-on experience with DAX and Power Query

" Exposure to Databricks or a similar cloud data platform

" Demonstrated ability to gather requirements and translate business needs into clear reporting solutions

" Strong understanding of data modeling, KPI development, and enterprise reporting best practices

" Experience working directly with business stakeholders in a highly collaborative environment

" Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

" Experience in legal, financial services, consulting, accounting, or other professional services environments

" Experience supporting BI modernization or migration efforts

" Experience with legacy BI/reporting tools such as Cognos, SSRS, or Crystal Reports

" Familiarity with Power BI Service administration, deployment workflows, workspaces, or governed BI

environments

" Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or related modern data platforms

" Microsoft certifications such as PL-300 or similar analytics certifications

" Power BI specialist rather than a BI generalist
