Our client, a leading chemical manufacturing company, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Chemical Process Engineer to join their operations in Boston, Massachusetts, US . This pivotal role will involve optimizing existing chemical processes, designing new ones, and ensuring efficient, safe, and environmentally compliant production. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in chemical engineering principles, extensive experience with process simulation and design, and a proven track record in troubleshooting and improving complex chemical manufacturing operations. You will work closely with production teams, R&D, and safety personnel to drive continuous improvement and innovation within our manufacturing facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and optimize chemical processes for efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability. Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new process designs and modifications. Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Perform process simulations and calculations using software such as Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or similar. Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues in chemical plants, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. Oversee the implementation of new equipment and process technologies. Ensure all processes comply with safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and company standards. Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation. Collaborate with R&D to scale up new products and processes from lab to pilot to commercial scale. Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and HAZOP studies. Monitor process performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement changes to enhance yield, reduce waste, and lower costs. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Stay current with advances in chemical engineering technology and best practices. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field. Master's degree is a plus. Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering, preferably within the chemical manufacturing industry. Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS). Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mass transfer. Experience with PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment design. Knowledge of process safety management (PSM) principles and practices. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information effectively. Experience with project management and leading technical initiatives. Ability to work effectively in a plant environment and collaborate with diverse teams. Professional Engineer (PE) license is a significant advantage.
