The Difference You Will Make:

We are hiring a Senior Consumer Communications Manager to tell the Airbnb story in Germany. This role is responsible for delivering large-scale consumer-facing campaigns while ensuring a regular press-office drumbeat of stories and news aimed at driving awareness and consideration of Airbnb across the country.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to ensure Airbnb remains a key player in consumer-facing media. They will also support the company’s reputation by sharing our story with a diverse audience of journalists, influencers, and community members.

We’re seeking a creative communications professional with a proven track record of developing and executing consumer communications initiatives that generate widespread awareness and brand buzz. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of popular culture, a passion for storytelling, and thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, managing multiple projects and priorities effectively.

The role is based in Germany and reports to the Communications Lead, DACH & CEE. 

A Typical Day:

Translate global communications priorities into locally nuanced ideas that support Airbnb’s key business objectives in the local market

Identify proactive press opportunities and drive national/global announcements, in support of consumer and product goals

Develop campaigns or programs that resonate with Italian audiences to help drive demand for Airbnb, involving key partners, celebrities,  influencers or opinion leaders in Germany

Handle incoming media inquiries, leveraging tools such as data, industry research, and host & guest stories to support Airbnb's community and brand

Collaborate with local, regional, and global Communications team members, as well as key cross-functional business stakeholders, to ensure a coordinated and strategic approach to communications initiatives

Liaise with our host & guest community over media opportunities

Develop written materials (press releases, blog posts, story pitches, Q&As, briefs, messaging guidelines, presentations etc.)

Develop and manage relationships with key reporters and celebrities/ influencers across Italy

Help manage a local agency and ensure key processes are adhered to, including campaign project management, coverage reporting, press office calendar management and the localization of key global press materials

Your Expertise:

10+ years of comprehensive communications experience, either in a PR agency or an in-house communications team. Previous experience in high-performing international organizations within entertainment, tech,  or travel sectors is a plus 

Bachelor’s Degree, german native speaker, fluent in English with excellent writing and verbal communications skills

Proven-track record of developing and executing creative consumer communications initiatives that generate positive earned media coverage, widespread awareness, and brand buzz

Strong awareness of pop culture and the ability to craft ideas that drive editorial media coverage and social engagement, tailoring communications efforts to resonate with diverse audiences 

Ability to create a strong editorial plan that ensure a constant media drumbeat combining global stories and local stories

Skilled at originating, project managing, and delivering complex, proactive press projects, ranging from research/data-driven stories and campaigns to press events, press trips, and celebrity/influencer engagements

Adept at collaborating with multi-functional teams in a matrix organization

Confident in leading meetings with external partners, senior stakeholders and media contacts

Experience in working with celebrities

Passionate about Airbnb and the mission of the company

Proficiency in agency management, including briefing, budget and impact analysis

Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting flexibly to change

How We'll Take Care of You:

The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range shown below is annualized, is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
