Transcelestial’s vision is to improve the connectivity experience for the next billion people. We believe that connectivity is a human right and Transcelestial is on a mission to solve the problem of internet distribution and provide affordable, high-speed internet to everyone.
Transcelestial’s next-generation wireless laser communication technology is one of the most effective solutions in the distribution of high-quality, high-speed internet connectivity, making it well-poised to solve civilization’s long-term communication needs - and ultimately improve connectivity for 1 billion users globally.
Highly reliable and secure, its light-weight, shoe-box sized CENTAURI device leverages its proprietary laser technology to create a wireless distribution network and can be quickly, easily and cost-effectively installed on any standard telecom pole or tower at a faster time-to-market than standard fiber-optic cable.
Over the longer-term, Transcelestial aims to develop a constellation of small satellites positioned in Low Earth Orbit, allowing their laser network to not only beam across cities but upwards to connect continents across the world too.

Senior Control Engineer - Space Laser Communications
The Senior Control Engineer is responsible for design and performance improvements of control systems at Transcelestial, specifically for our space laser communication devices. This position is part of the Space & Defense Team, led by Dr. Jan Smisek (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jan-smisek/). This position will also interact with the rest of the hardware, manufacturing and software design teams to assist with the overall development of the optical systems and new optical alignment technologies.
As Senior Control Engineer, you will:
- Design and implement high-performance control systems for precision pointing and stabilization of laser communication devices, including gimbals and fast steering mirrors, for both terrestrial and space environments.
- Develop, simulate, and validate control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink with automatic code generation, and verify them through simulation-based and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
- Integrate control systems with optical, mechanical, and embedded hardware subsystems, ensuring performance, robustness, and fault tolerance in diverse operating conditions.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in control system design for moving mechanical platforms (e.g., gimbals, telescopes, spacecraft ADCS, precision optical systems).
- Proficiency in control theory, dynamic modeling, and design using MATLAB/Simulink.
- Proven experience in embedded systems development for control applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of diagnosing and resolving complex system-level issues.
It is a bonus if you have:
- Experience with laser-based communication or high-precision optical systems in aerospace or terrestrial applications.
- Familiarity with spacecraft ADCS design and implementation.
- Knowledge of orbital mechanics and simulation tools (STK, MATLAB Aerospace Toolbox).
- DDS or ROS2 integration for control and data handling in embedded aerospace systems.
- Model-based design and code generation with MATLAB/Simulink for real-time control systems, including SIL, PIL, and HIL testing.
- Experience with full lifecycle projects (ideally in aerospace or defense), from concept through integration and operations, in both space and terrestrial domains.
Our Hiring Process and what to expect:
- 30 min call with our technical recruitment team to get a feel for the role and to make sure your objectives and ours are aligned.
