A leading firm in industrial automation and manufacturing solutions is seeking a highly experienced Senior Controls Engineer to join their advanced engineering team in Chicago, Illinois . This role is instrumental in the design, development, implementation, and optimization of complex automation systems and control strategies for a diverse range of industrial applications. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and industrial networking, coupled with strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to innovation. You will be responsible for leading projects from concept to completion, ensuring systems meet performance, safety, and efficiency requirements.
Key Responsibilities: Design and develop control system architectures, including PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens), HMI development, and SCADA systems. Implement and troubleshoot automation logic, motion control, and robotics applications. Specify and select industrial hardware components, sensors, actuators, and vision systems. Integrate various automation components and systems to create seamless operational workflows. Develop and execute comprehensive testing and validation plans for control systems. Provide technical support and training to clients and internal teams on automation solutions. Optimize existing control systems for improved performance, efficiency, and reliability. Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure integrated system design. Stay current with emerging automation technologies and industry standards. Lead and mentor junior control engineers, contributing to team growth and development. Ensure all designs comply with relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, UL). Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus. Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation and control systems engineering. Proficiency in programming languages for major PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley RSLogix/Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal). Experience with HMI/SCADA software platforms (e.g., FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Wonderware). Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus). Knowledge of industrial robotics programming and integration (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB). Experience with CAD software for electrical schematics (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical). Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting. Strong project management and organizational skills.
