Job Description

Recruiter Summary of Position

  • Job Title: Senior Controls Engineer (Hytrol Conveyors)
  • Location: Chicago, Illinois
  • Work Arrangement: On-site with 30%–50% regional travel. Open to remote candidates if they are willing to travel more than 30% to 50%.
  • Required Skills: 5+ years of Controls Engineering; PLC & HMI Programming experience (Allen Bradley, Beckhoff, Siemens, or Ignition); AutoCAD for electrical design. Material handling environment experience required. Experience with Hytrol conveyors, robotics, and large-scale material handling systems.
  • Preferred Skills: Prior Team Lead or Project Lead experience is sought.
  • Employer Value Proposition: Ability to spend most weekends home with family rather than constantly travelling for work over the weekend. Full project lifecycle ownership, exposure to diverse automation tech (Robotics/PLCs), and a culture that invests in long-term career growth.

As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will be the technical heartbeat of the automated supply chain, transforming complex logistics challenges into elegant, intelligent systems. You’ll spend your days as the architect of efficiency, bridging the gap between high-level design and hands-on commissioning to build the infrastructure that moves the world. Partnering closely with sales, installation teams, and clients, you’ll ensure every robotic arm and conveyor belt functions with surgical precision, making a tangible impact on global commerce.

Why This is Your Next Strategic Move:

  • Total Project Ownership: Move beyond "just coding" to lead the full lifecycle, from the first conceptual proposal to the final on-site handshake.
  • Diverse Tech Stack: Stay at the forefront of automation by integrating PLCs, HMIs, and advanced robotics across varied client environments.
  • A Culture of Longevity: Join a team that values your future as much as your output, offering flexible work options and a paid sabbatical to recharge.
  • Mastery & Mentorship: Apply your deep expertise in Allen Bradley or Siemens to solve high-pressure, real-world engineering puzzles.

What You’ll Do to Succeed:

You will design and program the electrical and control systems that power state-of-the-art warehousing solutions. Your mastery of AutoCAD and PLC/HMI programming will allow you to create flawless schematics and intuitive interfaces. By traveling to client sites (approximately 30%–50%), you will lead the commissioning phase, ensuring that what you built on paper thrives in production.

What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in controls engineering within material handling or similar industrial environments.
  • Expert-level proficiency in PLC and HMI programming (specifically Allen Bradley, Beckhoff, Siemens, or Ignition).
  • A collaborative spirit and the willingness to travel to see your projects come to life.

By applying for this job, you agree that we can text you (standard rates apply).
