The Senior Controls Engineer (Siemens PCS7) is responsible for the design, development, commissioning, and maintenance of control systems for industrial clients. The role involves technical leadership within multi-disciplinary project teams delivering automation, instrumentation, motor control, robotics, and data-driven manufacturing solutions. The main focus of this role is Siemens technology.
Responsibilities
- Design, program, and document PLC, HMI, SCADA, and motor control systems.
- Support integration of instrumentation, VFDs, servo drives, and robotics into industrial processes.
- Assist in developing process control software, performing FAT and commissioning activities under supervision.
- Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure project requirements are met.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, including specifications, drawings, and testing records.
- Participate in troubleshooting and technical problem resolution.
- Maintain compliance with safety standards, corporate policies, and client specifications.
- Support senior engineers in client communications, approvals, and permitting processes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, automation engineering, or a related discipline; master’s degree preferred by not required.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in industrial control systems and automation within manufacturing or process environments with strong focus on the Siemens technology.
- Proven proficiency in Siemens PLC and HMI programming, instrumentation design, motor control systems, VFDs, robotics integration, and commissioning. Additional knowledge of Rockwell PLC and HMI programming would be an asset.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or EPLAN would be an asset.
- Experience in FAT/SAT, system start-up, field commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with sound engineering judgment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical and executive audiences.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently and concurrently.
- High level of professional accountability, dependability, and commitment to quality.
- Demonstrated safety awareness and adherence to safe engineering and construction practices.
- Knowledge of MES, SCADA, Industrial IoT, or digital manufacturing concepts preferred.
- Familiarity with sustainability, energy-efficiency, and digital transformation projects would be an asset.
- Prior exposure to projects in life sciences sector would be an asset.

Working Conditions
- Travel to client sites, both domestic and international, approximately 30% of the time.
