Senior Cross-Barrel Analyst (East of Suez Oil & Gas Markets)

We are partnering with an international energy trading firm seeking a Senior Cross-Barrel Analyst to support and enhance its trading activities across oil and gas markets east of suez.

This is a high-impact, front-office analytical role supporting multiple trading books across the barrel (crude, fuel oil, distillates, gasoline, LNG, and LPG). The analyst will develop fundamental market views, generate actionable trade ideas, and provide real-time decision support to traders.

The role requires broad cross-commodity coverage, strong commercial instincts, and the ability to translate market intelligence into clear, monetizable opportunities.

Responsibilities

Fundamental Market Analysis

  • Develop and maintain cross-barrel fundamental views across the barrel
  • Analyze global supply-demand balances, flows, arbitrage dynamics, and infrastructure constraints
  • Track key market drivers including refinery runs, petrochemical demand, seasonal shifts, and macro trends

Trade Idea Generation

  • Proactively identify and propose high-conviction trade ideas across physical and paper markets
  • Translate fundamental views into actionable strategies (arbitrage, spreads, structure, relative value)
  • Work closely with traders to refine and execute commercially viable opportunities

Trader Support & Decision Analytics

  • Provide real-time market insights and pricing context to trading desks
  • Support traders with scenario analysis, positioning insights, and forward outlooks
  • Help optimize entry/exit timing, structure, and risk-reward of trades

Cross-Barrel Integration

  • Identify linkages and dislocations across products and regions (e.g., crude vs products, LPG vs naphtha, fuel oil vs refining margins)
  • Develop a holistic view of the barrel, connecting upstream, refining, and downstream dynamics
  • Contribute to a firm-wide macro and cross-commodity perspective

Data, Models & Market Intelligence

  • Build and maintain analytical models, dashboards, and fundamental trackers
  • Incorporate shipping data, flows, inventory movements, and pricing signals into analysis
  • Continuously refine frameworks to improve forecasting accuracy and trade relevance

Collaboration & Impact

  • Work directly with senior traders in a flat, collaborative structure
  • Act as a thought partner, not just a support function - influencing P&L outcomes
  • Contribute to the firm's broader market positioning and strategic direction

Requirements

Experience

  • 6-12+ years in energy markets analysis, strategy, or trading support
  • Strong exposure to multiple parts of the barrel (crude, products, LNG/LPG preferred)
  • Experience working closely with trading desks in a commercial environment

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Deep understanding of:
  • Oil and gas market fundamentals and flows
  • Refining economics and product interdependencies
  • Global arbitrage structures and pricing benchmarks
  • Strong ability to convert analysis into clear, tradeable insights
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and modelling approaches

Mindset & Attributes

  • Commercially driven analyst - focused on P&L impact, not just research output
  • Naturally curious with a cross-commodity mindset
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, trader-facing environment
  • Strong communicator, able to influence experienced traders with clear conviction

Why This Opportunity

  • Direct exposure to multiple trading books across the barrel
  • Opportunity to move beyond siloed analysis into true front-office impact
  • Lean, entrepreneurial environment where ideas translate quickly into trades
  • Ability to develop a broad, integrated view of global energy markets
  • High visibility with traders and leadership, with real influence on capital deployment
