We are partnered with a leading FX trading house, operating at scale across global markets. With a rapidly evolving data landscape and continued investment in modern data platforms, they are looking to hire a Senior Data Engineer to join their core engineering team. This is a hands-on role in a high-performance environment, focused on building and evolving a best-of-breed, largely open-source data platform that underpins trading, risk, and operational decision-making.

The Role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will take ownership of designing, building, and scaling robust data platforms and pipelines. You’ll play a key role in shaping architecture, setting engineering standards, and mentoring a small team, while remaining deeply technical. The role has a strong emphasis on data pipeline development in Python, alongside broader platform ownership including data warehousing, data products, and data governance.

You’ll work in a cloud-agnostic environment, leveraging a mix of technologies including Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Fabric/Synapse, and a modern open-source stack such as Airflow, Kafka, and ClickHouse.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines (primarily in Python)

• Architect and evolve a modern data platform (ingestion, lake, warehouse, and consumption layers)

• Develop and optimise data warehousing solutions, including ClickHouse and cloud-based platforms

• Implement and manage data orchestration using Airflow and other open-source tools

• Contribute to a data mesh architecture, leveraging Kafka or similar messaging technologies

• Define and maintain data models and semantic layers for business consumption

• Establish best practices for data quality, lineage, auditability, and performance

• Build and maintain data catalogues, glossaries, and governance frameworks

• Integrate data platforms with visualisation tools such as Power BI and Tableau

• Collaborate closely with engineering leadership, quants, and business stakeholders

Architecture & Concepts You’ll Work With

• Medallion Architecture (Raw → Cleansed → Curated/Golden layers)

• Designing and building data lakes and ingestion frameworks from scratch

• Developing data products and semantic layers for trading and analytics

• Understanding upstream and downstream data dependencies

• Applying data mesh principles with distributed ownership

• Working within Azure Fabric environments and modern cloud ecosystems

Key Skills:

• Strong experience in Python-based data engineering

• Proven expertise with Databricks and modern data platforms

• Experience with Airflow or similar orchestration frameworks

• Solid understanding of data warehousing and data modelling

• Experience with Kafka or event-driven architectures (highly beneficial)

• Exposure to ClickHouse or similar analytical databases is advantageous

• Knowledge of data catalogues, glossaries, and governance practices

• Experience with semantic layers and business-facing data models

• Track record of building end-to-end data platforms (ingestion → lake → warehouse)

• Comfortable working in an agile, iterative delivery environment
