What is the opportunity?

Reporting to the Director, CDO - Risk Completeness Control Team, this role is a key contributor in ensuring the integrity, accuracy and completeness of Finance and Risk data across various finance and risk domains. The incumbent will support and perform the key risk reconciliations and present the results of these reconciliations to various stakeholders. The incumbent will develop and maintain working relationships across the organization including Group Risk Management, Personal & Commercial Banking, Capital Markets, Wealth Management, Finance, Internal/External Audit, SOX Office, and other enterprise functions. All responsibilities conducted in accordance with Code of Conduct, RBC Values and Guiding Principles ensuring adherence to Privacy principles.

What will you do?

  • Complete and maintain FRTB (Fundamental Review of Trading Books) market risk reconciliations of all traded products to ensure that RBC risk reports and capital measurements are based on complete data, identify trading positions that may be missing from market risk capital and provide independent oversight of the challenging issues to Enterprise Market Risk stakeholders.
  • Support Enterprise Market Risk (EMR) in their capital management activities through ensuring clear processes that track the total exposure back to the end of the day contracts(EODC) and ensuring quality, integrity and transparency of Market Risk data.
  • Provide assurance that the specific and aggregate data values reconcile with authoritative sources and/or systems of record and provide independent oversight of the challenging issues.
  • Evaluate any unmitigated risks and control weaknesses, and recommend new or modified reconciliation controls, consistent with the stakeholder’s requirements.
  • Maintain and update key processes and documentation for SOX & Audit compliance. Function as a business subject matter expert and conduct information gathering sessions to assess, analyze and document reconciliation needs.
  • Undertake new projects and change initiatives including participation in writing efficient Python code for data manipulation (using libraries like pandas or numpy) and automation. The candidate must possess strong SQL skills, including complex joins, subqueries, to retrieve and transform data from relational databases. Key responsibilities include designing robust data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and managing data workflows, alongside utilizing GitHub for version control, branching, and pull request reviews. The candidate must possess high-level Excel proficiency, capable of manipulating large datasets using advanced functions to perform efficient data validation and cross-referencing.
  • Manage detailed business requirements: identifying, tracking, and resolving business systems issues.
  • Recommend business solutions that satisfy sponsor/stakeholder needs while continually exploring and assessing options to centralize, standardize and streamline reconciliation and business processes.
  • Support issue tracking, agile project management, monthly timelines as EPICS and Stories on JIRA /Confluence and maintain/present on-going progress and status updates in Scrum of Scrum.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Must-have 5+ years of industry knowledge and relevant experience in accounting, finance, risk management, data management and/or business analysis.
  • Relevant experience with market risk data, data quality principles, data control design, self-assessment of existing processes and systems.
  • Ability to analyze and comprehend complex financial products, reporting, statistical analysis, and data related issues.
  • Familiarity with financial service regulatory requirements, reporting, and guidelines (e.g., BCBS239, IFRS 9, CECL).
  • Applicable data management and process improvement skills with:
  • Python: Practical experience in data automation, scripting, and manipulating data frames.
  • SQL: Ability to write, optimize, and debug queries involving complex joins, aggregation, and Database objects.
  • Data Management: Proficiency in creating, testing, and maintaining efficient, scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines. Ability to clean, structure, and organize datasets.
  • GitHub: Comfort with version control workflows, branching, merging, resolving conflicts, and documenting code within repositories.
  • AI Productivity: Using AI tools (e.g., Copilot) to automate tasks.
  • Microsoft Excel advanced features
  • Undergraduate degree in a numerical discipline, business administration, finance, or a combination.
  • Good communications and large group presentation skills (verbal and written). Some experience with business and/or technical documentation and the assessment of existing processes and systems.
