Job Description

Join Our Innovative Team

The Enterprise AI division at Humana is pushing the boundaries of AI technology, revolutionizing care quality for millions in both our Insurance and CenterWell sectors. By working alongside industry leaders, we deliver pioneering AI solutions that enhance the healthcare experience. We are looking for exceptional talent to create resilient, reusable AI components and processes that adhere to responsible AI practices for effective risk management. Be part of our mission to transform healthcare with AI excellence.

We are developing sophisticated agents capable of autonomously managing and breaking down complex goals. We invite you to apply your expertise in agent design, planning, and control to develop and assess agents that can define, adapt, and execute goals in dynamic, real-world settings. Your contributions will play a vital role in establishing the scientific and engineering principles that ensure the reliability, interpretability, and robustness of AI agents across long-term tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build goal setting and decomposition frameworks for autonomous agents in uncertain or open-ended scenarios.
  • Develop dynamic planning systems, such as hierarchical planning and self-refinement loops.
  • Collaborate on memory management, tool usage, and feedback loop development to enable multi-step, self-guided agent actions.
  • Create evaluation frameworks to ensure alignment with human intent and monitor progress toward long-term objectives.
  • Prototype agents that interact with APIs, databases, and real-world actuators to safely and efficiently pursue goals.
  • Investigate strategies to identify and address goal misalignment and undesirable behaviors.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to synchronize goal alignment with safety and operational reliability measures.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and data analysis/mining tools.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as Pytorch, Jax, LangChain, LangGraph, or AutoGen.
  • Background in high-performance, large-scale ML systems.
  • Familiarity with language modeling using transformers.
  • Knowledge of symbolic planning, causal reasoning, and model-based reinforcement learning.
  • Experience with large-scale ETL processes.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree with a minimum of 4 years' experience in machine learning or applied research, especially in production-ready AI solutions.
  • At least 2 years of leadership experience in AI/ML systems development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a closely related field.
  • Proven experience deploying autonomous or semi-autonomous agents in production environments or simulations.
  • Experience with agents utilizing LLMs that incorporate self-reflection or hierarchical task decomposition.
  • Understanding of strategies for mitigating autonomy risks, including safety protocols.
