About the Role
As a Senior Data Scientist - Editorial & News Products, you will:
- Partner witheditorial leaders, newsroom stakeholders, and product managersto translate editorial goals into data science problems and measurable outcomes.
- Work across theeditorial lifecycle, including contentdata productcreation, enrichment, curation, distribution, and audience engagement.
- Design, build, and deploymachine learning and statistical modelsthat support editorial news products.
- Develop models forcontent recommendation, personalisation, topic detection, tagging, clustering, and trend identification.
- Explore, analyse, and prepare complex editorial and audience datasets to generate actionable insights.
- Design andmaintaindata pipelines and feature stores in collaboration with engineering teams.
- Collaborate with data analysts to builddashboards and data storiesthat help editorial and product teams understand content performance and audience behaviour.
- Clearly communicate insights,trade-offs, and recommendations to both technical and nontechnical audiences, including newsroom stakeholders.
- Mentor and coach junior data scientists and analysts, setting best practices for analytical rigour and responsible AI.
- Stay current with advances inAI for media and newsproducts,andhelp drive their responsible adoption across the organisation.
About You
You are a strong candidate for this role if you have:
- 6-10 years of experiencein data science, machine learning, or applied AI, with a strongtrack recordof production delivery.
- A degree in a quantitative field such asComputer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or Engineering(or equivalent experience).
- StrongproficiencyinPython, SQL, and modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake).
- Deep experience withNLP andtext-basedML, such as classification, embeddings, topic modelling, sentiment analysis, sequence models, and transfer learning.
- Hands-on experience buildinggenerative AI solutionsusing large language models (e.g.,GPTstyleor opensource models), including prompt engineering, RAG, andagent-basedapproaches.
- Experience withrecommendation systems, information retrieval, search relevance, or personalisation, ideally incontent heavyormedia-likedomains.
- Familiarity withAWS-based ML tooling(e.g., SageMaker) and scalable model deployment patterns.
- Experience building or collaborating ondata pipelinesusing tools such as AWS Glue or similar orchestration frameworks.
- Strongdata storytelling and visualisation skills, with experience using Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent tools.
- A product-oriented mindset, with the ability to balance editorial quality, user value, and technical feasibility.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with journalists, editors, product managers, and engineers.
- A genuine interest injournalism, news products, and the responsible use of AI in editorial contexts.
