Senior Data Steward

6 Month Contract-to-Hire

Job Description

One of the country’s largest retail companies is searching for a seasoned Technical Data Steward to join their dynamic team onsite in Dallas, TX. In this pivotal role, you'll lead data governance initiatives, drive metadata management, and foster collaboration across technical and business groups. You’ll have the opportunity to shape data quality standards, enhance accessibility, and ensure traceable, compliant data throughout the organization.

This exciting opportunity to contribute as a Technical Data Steward begins as a 6-month W2 contract with full-time onsite requirements (5 days/week) in Dallas, TX. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401K, Sick Time PTO. There is potential for contract extension or conversion based on performance and organizational needs.

  • Manage and enrich metadata using Atlan, ensuring datasets, tables, and data pipelines are thoroughly documented and easy to find
  • Define, implement, and maintain data cataloging standards, classifications (including PII/sensitive data), and a comprehensive business glossary
  • Develop and enforce data governance policies such as RBAC/ABAC and compliance requirements
  • Build and maintain end-to-end data lineage for impact analysis and traceability, from source to transformation to consumption
  • Partner with data engineering, analytics, and business teams to enhance data accessibility and usability
  • Oversee data quality standards, monitor issues, and drive timely resolution
  • Support access governance workflows and ensure sensitive data is handled appropriately
  • Configure integrations and automation for Atlan with platforms like Databricks, GCP, Snowflake, and BI tools

Skill Requirements

  • Deep hands-on experience with Atlan (preferred) or similar metadata management tools (such as Collibra or Alation)
  • Solid understanding of data governance principles, metadata management, and data lineage strategies
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms including Databricks, GCP, and Snowflake
  • Expertise in handling PII, data security, and implementing RBAC/ABAC controls
  • Advanced skills in SQL and knowledge of ETL/ELT data pipeline concepts
  • Superior communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with DBX to GCP migrations (nice to have)
  • Exposure to data quality tools such as Great Expectations or Monte Carlo (nice to have)
  • Awareness of regulatory compliance frameworks (nice to have)

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or related field.
