As a Sr. Distinguished Engineer at Capital One, you will be a part of a community of technical experts working to define the future of banking in the cloud. You will operate as a trusted advisor for our key technologies, platforms and capability domains, creating clear and concise communications, code samples, blog posts and other material to share knowledge both inside and outside the organization. You will specialize in a particular subject area, but your input and impact will be sought and expected throughout the organization.

The Senior Distinguished Engineer in Payments Cryptography will operate at the intersection of advanced cryptography, payment industry standards, and physical hardware. You will play a key role designing and implementing the cryptographic foundations that make our physical cards secure, from the moment they are manufactured to every point-of-sale interaction. Passionately track payment cryptography trends and proactively identify opportunities to develop innovative solutions for next-generation payment instruments.

The ideal candidate will be focused on delivering critical and key enterprise data protection controls, building efficient supporting processes and comprehensive automation capabilities to protect and enable our Card business.

• Act as a role model and mentor within the tech community, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community
• Work with payment ecosystem partners, i.e. payment networks, Chip Card personalization vendors and cloud service providers on security solutions design and compliance

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree
• At least 9 years of experience in Enterprise architecture and design patterns
• At least 9 years of experience in Security engineering and architecture
• At least 9 years of experience in cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Information Security , Computer Science or a related field
• 10+ years of professional experience coding in commonly used languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift
• 10+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment and production support
• 10+ years of experience in Cryptography and Hardware Security Modules (HSMs)
• 10+ years of experience securing financial transactions
• Strong understanding of Cloud Security, Cryptography, DevSecOps, Information Security, Key/Secrets Management, PKI (automation, controls, governance, lifecycle management, operations, process engineering, and security standards development)
• CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional ) certification
• 7+ years of experience in EMV profile security
• 7+ years of experience in Payment Hardware Security Module (Thales Payshiled 10k or similar industry standard payment HSMs)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
