Job Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for defining and developing AI tools for system engineering processes. The focus of the position is on understanding the internal customer’s need to use AI effectively to optimize system engineering processes. This includes the creation of specifications and test scenarios for the developed features.
In addition, the successful candidate will support the R&D project team engineers and researchers with technical evaluation of technologies being considered by Magna. The evaluation will consist of a scientific deep dive, application analysis, manufacturability, market and cost factors associated with the technology. The Sr. Research Engineer will plan, execute and coordinate R&D programs for/with internal and external R&D departments, (supplier) companies, institutions and academia.
Key Responsibilities
- Salary: $125,000 - $165,000, annual salary
- Evaluate technologies and product designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements.
- Support development of innovative components from concept through validation, prototyping, testing, and business case evaluation.
- Design and conduct research programs using principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, electronics, heat transfer, and materials.
- Generate innovative product and process ideas while collaborating and sharing knowledge across the team.
- Manage project schedules by monitoring progress, coordinating activities, sequencing tasks, and resolving issues.
- Specify and coordinate subcontracted work (software, prototyping, validation, testing) and ensure timely completion.
- Collaborate with project engineers to resolve design challenges and provide engineering support to other departments.
- Maintain technical expertise through continuous learning, reviewing industry publications, and staying current with R&D developments.
Qualifications
- Master's or higher degree in Engineering including but not limited to Computer Science, Electrical, Aerospace, and Robotics.
- Automotive OEM or Tier‑1 experience preferred.
- 5 years or more experience including Ph.D. research, SW & ML/GenAI/AI related Industry.
- Strong spoken and written English language skills.
- Proficient in programming python.
- Experience in prompting techniques.
- Proficient in agentic AI frameworks such as crewai, langgraph, etc.

- Ability to travel domestic and international – 10% percent of the time.
