Contract Period: 2-Year / Permanent
Applications are invited for the vacancy in the Telecommunications Branch of Technical Services Department in Power Systems Business Group. Our telecommunications networks cover the full spectrum of technologies including fibre optic, transmission & multiplexing, microwave, LAN/WAN, PABX, TETRA and other radio networks. Reporting to Manager, the appointee will lead the telecommunications network evaluation, budget preparation, strategy formulation, plan and design of the in-house Telecommunications Networks of the Company.
Major Duties Include
- Lead the network planning and design of the in-house wireline and wireless telecommunications networks for utility applications
- Conduct technology evaluation, feasibility studies, and pilot trials on new telecommunications technologies and applications which could bring values to existing and/or future business/engineering operations
- Formulate long term telecommunications strategy, policies and codes of practice
- Lead and execute the new project tender process including technical requirement, project justification and product realization
- Provide technical advice and support to internal customers on telecom and data networking solutions and programs
- Build and foster customer relations with IT and other stakeholders to improve productivity and achieve business excellence
- Develop and motivate multi-functional teams comprising vendors / consultants employed in telecom and data networking projects, new technology development and external business, to ensure their maximum utilization in meeting the present and future business needs
- Supervise both internal staff and contractors and ensure the compliance with the technical, safety, quality, and statutory requirements
- Promoting safety culture by leading as examples
- Perform duties during typhoon periods, adverse weather conditions, and non-office hours as required
Requirements
- A recognized university degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Engineering or equivalent
- MHKIE or equivalent would be an advantage
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in telecom network planning & design, strategy formulation, project management of telecommunications systems, with proven experience in leading teams for the evaluation and development of telecommunications services.
- Solid experience in designing, maintaining, and operating in large-scale Telecommunications systems, such as LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi, PABX, IP Telephony, fibre optic, transmission & multiplexing
- Proficiency in both voice and data networking technologies including routing and switching communication protocols
- Holder of CCNP/CCIE or equivalent would be an advantage
- Experience in leading and executing large-scale telecom network tenders would be an advantage
- Experience or knowledge on Power Utility Applications would be an advantage
- Ability to work under pressure and be rational and decisive under all situations
- Possession of good safety and environmental awareness
- Ability to communicate effectively with different levels, both internally and externally
- Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese
- Good presentation, interpersonal, negotiation, managerial and leadership skills
- Possession of a valid Driving License class 1, 2 would be an advantage
Candidates with less qualification and/or experience but demonstrate good potential for further development will be considered for a position at lower grade.
