The Role
We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager with a strong frontend focus to own the experience layer of our platform and lead a team of 3 - 5 frontend and full stack engineers building it.
You’ll be the bridge between our AI backend and the people who use it every day. That means crafting interfaces for real-time data exploration, file management, large language model chats, and collaborative spaces. You’ll be hands‑on in the codebase while also driving your team’s output, quality, and growth.
What You’ll Do
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 3 - 5 frontend and full stack engineers, run stand‑ups, code reviews, and sprint planning.
- Design and build complex, interactive frontend applications using React, TypeScript, and Next.js with a focus on performance and usability.
- Develop and maintain reusable component libraries and design systems that scale across the platform.
- Build real‑time interfaces for AI‑powered features including streaming chat responses, live data tables, and interactive visualizations.
- Implement rich file handling experiences: drag‑and‑drop uploads, media playback, preview rendering, and content browsing across documents, video, images, and datasets.
- Architect and build RESTful and WebSocket APIs in Node.js and TypeScript that serve the frontend with low latency and high reliability.
- Optimize frontend performance: code splitting, lazy loading, caching strategies, and bundle optimization for fast load times at scale.
- Implement authentication, authorization, and workspace‑level multi‑tenancy across the full stack.
- Write clean, tested, production‑ready code with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing (unit, integration, e2e).
- Work closely with the founding team to shape product direction, UX decisions, and technical architecture.
- Ship fast, gather feedback, and iterate. We prototype in days, not months.
What We’re Looking For
- 6+ years of full stack experience with at least 2–3 years building complex frontend applications.
- 2+ years of engineering management or tech lead experience, ideally managing a small frontend team.
- Expert‑level proficiency in React, TypeScript, and modern CSS (Tailwind, CSS Modules, or similar).
- Strong experience with Next.js or comparable React frameworks in production.
- Solid backend skills in Node.js and TypeScript, building APIs, services, and database integrations.
- Experience with real‑time data: WebSockets, Server‑Sent Events (SSE), or streaming interfaces.
- Comfortable with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and writing performant queries.
- Experience with cloud deployments (GCP, AWS), Docker, and CI/CD workflows.
- Ability to give direct, constructive feedback and grow junior and mid‑level engineers.
- Eye for detail. You care about spacing, transitions, loading states, and the small things that separate good UI from great UI.
- Bias toward shipping. You prototype fast, iterate based on real usage, and don't over‑engineer.
Nice to Have
- Experience with ClickHouse or columnar databases for analytical workloads.
- Familiarity with video/audio streaming (HLS, adaptive bitrate) and media processing pipelines.
- Experience building collaborative or multi‑user real‑time interfaces.
- Background in data visualization (D3, Recharts, or similar charting libraries).
- Experience with AI/LLM‑powered interfaces: chat UIs, streaming token rendering, tool‑use displays.
- Contributions to open‑source frontend or full stack projects.
- Experience at an early‑stage startup.
