Our client, a pioneering company at the forefront of renewable energy innovation, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geothermal Energy Systems Engineer to join their fully remote engineering division. This role is crucial for driving the design, development, and implementation of advanced geothermal energy solutions. You will leverage your expertise in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and geological engineering to optimize energy extraction and conversion processes. This is a remote-first position, allowing you to contribute significantly to sustainable energy initiatives from anywhere in the US.
Responsibilities:
Lead the conceptual design and engineering of geothermal power plants and direct-use systems. Perform detailed system analysis, including thermodynamic cycles, fluid flow, and heat transfer calculations relevant to geothermal resources. Develop project specifications, P&IDs, and equipment selection criteria for geothermal energy projects. Oversee the simulation and modeling of geothermal reservoirs and energy conversion systems to optimize performance and predict long-term viability. Collaborate with geological survey teams to assess resource potential and feasibility for new projects. Manage project timelines, budgets, and technical documentation for geothermal energy system development. Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental policies. Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges during the construction, commissioning, and operation phases of geothermal projects. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of best practices in geothermal energy technology. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in geothermal exploration, drilling, and power generation technologies. Effectively communicate project status, technical findings, and recommendations to stakeholders. Qualifications:
Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field with a focus on energy systems. Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the geothermal energy sector or closely related renewable energy fields. In-depth knowledge of geothermal resource assessment, reservoir engineering, and power plant design. Proven experience with thermodynamic analysis, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics in energy systems. Familiarity with simulation software for reservoir modeling (e.g., TOUGH2, EGS) and power cycle analysis. Strong project management skills and ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative environment. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Understanding of environmental permitting and regulatory frameworks for energy projects.
