This is a hands-on board-level design role for someone who wants to actually build systems—not just review specs or sit in meetings.
The company is a long-established (40+ years), financially solid engineering firm in San Francisco building high-precision electronics for aerospace, defense, and scientific applications. Small, experienced team. Low bureaucracy. Real ownership.
You’ll be involved in everything from architecture through bring-up, working on instrumentation-heavy designs that require both analog depth and solid digital fundamentals.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing:
- Designing real board-level hardware (analog + digital + power)
- Driving system architecture and making engineering tradeoffs
- Working alongside firmware and FPGA engineers to bring systems up
- Debugging, refining, and improving designs—not just handing them off
- Mentoring junior engineers and helping raise the bar technically
- Contributing to long-term product and system direction
What They’re Looking For:
- Strong board-level design experience (~6+ years; more is better)
- Solid analog background (instrumentation is a big plus)
- Comfortable across digital + power design
- Experience taking designs from concept through production
- Familiar with tools like PADS or similar
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (no sponsorship).
Nice to Have (Not Required):
- FPGA exposure
- Embedded systems / C/C++
- RTOS or embedded Linux
- Signal processing / controls
- Data acquisition or mixed-signal work
- Python
Comp / Benefits:
- Competitive base + bi-annual bonus
- Full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life)
- 401(k) with company contribution
- PTO + holidays
- Relocation assistance
