Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to join their prestigious team in **Boston, Massachusetts**. This role is crucial for the design, implementation, and maintenance of sophisticated control systems across various industrial and manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of instrumentation and control systems, troubleshooting complex issues, and leading projects from conception through completion. This position requires a deep understanding of process control, automation technologies, and safety standards within a demanding engineering environment.
Responsibilities:
Design, specify, and implement instrumentation and control systems for industrial processes. Develop and maintain P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), control narratives, and cause & effect matrices. Select appropriate instrumentation (transmitters, sensors, valves, controllers) based on process requirements. Configure and program PLCs, DCS, and HMI systems for effective process control. Develop and implement advanced control strategies to optimize process performance and efficiency. Troubleshoot and resolve complex instrumentation and control system issues. Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations (e.g., ISA, IEC), and client specifications. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for instrumentation and control projects. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, mechanical engineers, and operations personnel. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians. Conduct FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) for control systems. Develop and maintain detailed documentation, including design specifications, operating manuals, and test reports. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, preferably within the process industries. Proven expertise in designing and implementing PLC/DCS/HMI systems from major vendors (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Honeywell, Emerson). Strong knowledge of process instrumentation, control valves, and safety instrumented systems (SIS). Familiarity with process simulation and control system modeling software. Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control logic. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Strong project management capabilities, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting. Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Experience working in a project-oriented environment and managing multiple priorities. Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulatory requirements.
