Job Description

Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute (MRDI) is established to seize the huge potential market for third-generation semiconductors and align with the national strategy for technological development.

The MRDI is looking for a dynamic and high-calibre professional to fill the position of (Senior) Lead Engineer in Wet Etch module.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of wet process technologies for the 8‑inch pilot line for third‑generation semiconductors (SiC / GaN), including cleaning, etching, surface treatment, metal stripping and chemical formulation management.
  • Take responsibility for the installation, commissioning, process matching, routine monitoring and major preventive maintenance (PM) of wet‑process equipment such as automatic cleaning tools, wet etching tanks, chemical delivery systems and scrubbers, ensuring stable and controlled operation during the R&D phase.
  • Work closely with process integration engineers and facilities teams to support the development of CMOS‑compatible SiC / GaN processes, including DOE design, parameter optimisation and cross‑module troubleshooting.
  • Establish, refine and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for wet processes, chemical management workflows, risk assessments and safety operating guidelines, ensuring full compliance with institutional requirements.
  • Oversee chemical usage, waste‑liquid handling and relevant EHS requirements, collaborating with facilities teams to maintain safe and reliable chemical supply and discharge systems.
  • Participate in procurement and tendering activities related to wet‑process equipment and chemicals, including defining technical specifications, evaluating supplier proposals, attending technical clarification meetings, and supporting acceptance and performance testing to ensure alignment with process needs and R&D objectives.
  • Provide practical training on lithography processes and equipment operation to team members and trainees.
  • Ensure stable operation of Wet-etch equipment during both R&D and production phases, and maintain complete process documentation, equipment history, troubleshooting records, and updates for reference and compliance.
  • Maintain comprehensive process documentation, equipment histories, incident records, troubleshooting reports and improvement plans to support technical knowledge accumulation and future expansion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related disciplines.
  • At least 8 years of semiconductor fab experience with direct hands-on exposure to wet‑process operations, equipment maintenance or process development; experience in SiC / GaN or CMOS‑compatible process integration is highly desirable.
  • Strong familiarity with wet‑process chemical characteristics, process windows, equipment operating principles and common troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to effectively resolve process and equipment‑related technical challenges.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Chinese and English (including Putonghua and Cantonese), with the ability to collaborate across diverse process and facility teams.
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment and meet tight deadlines.

NOTE: The actual position offered will be commensurate with the applicant's qualifications and experience.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A gratuity of 15% of the salary will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the contract. The incumbent will normally work five days a week. The initial employment contract spans 24 months and can be renewed with a longer tenure upon mutual agreement of the incumbent and MRDI.
