Senior Manager / Associate Director- Commercial Analytics

Pharmaceutical Consulting | San Francisco Bay Area

Level: Senior Manager or Associate Director (commensurate with experience)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area — Hybrid (minimum 3 days on-site per week)

Function: Commercial Analytics, Insights & Analytics (I&A)

Industry: Pharmaceutical / Biotech Consulting

Engagement: Client-facing, Cross-functional role

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a seasoned Commercial Analytics leader to join our team at the Senior Manager or Associate Director level. In this high-impact role, you will serve as the analytical engine behind commercial strategy for a large pharmaceutical company — synthesizing secondary data from across the market landscape to generate insights that directly shape brand decisions and senior leadership priorities.

You will work at the intersection of data, strategy, and storytelling — translating complex analytics into clear, compelling recommendations for commercial teams, medical, finance, and executive stakeholders. This role demands a rare blend of technical depth, business acumen, and the executive presence to influence senior audiences with confidence.

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will lead insight generation efforts, drive standard and ad hoc reporting, and continuously raise the bar on analytical tools, methodologies, and best practices within the Commercial Analytics function.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Insights & Analytics Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end insights generation by integrating multiple secondary data sources — synthesizing market trends, competitive dynamics, and brand performance into a cohesive TA narrative.
  • Design, produce, and interpret standard commercial reports including weekly KPI dashboards, monthly performance trackers, and quarterly business reviews.
  • Lead ad-hoc investigative analyses tied to specific business objectives, proactively identifying opportunities and risks for the commercial team.
  • Demonstrate deep ownership of relevant TA datasets, ensuring confidence in data through a clear understanding of collection methodologies, business rules, and known caveats.

Strategic Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted analytics partner to marketing, finance, and medical affairs teams — shaping brand strategy through data-driven perspectives.
  • Present analytical findings and tactical recommendations to leadership with clarity and executive presence; simplify complex concepts both verbally and visually (PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Manage multiple stakeholders simultaneously, delivering on competing priorities with rigor and responsiveness.
  • Collaborate with the broader Data & Analytics (D&A) team, engaging colleagues across functions to build a comprehensive view of the therapeutic area market.

Operational Excellence & Capability Building

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable SOPs across internal teams and external vendors.
  • Continuously improve Commercial Insights capabilities by researching and implementing new analytical tools, data sources, and industry best practices.
  • Direct and prioritize team resources and vendor support to deliver on project timelines effectively.
  • Drive implementation of enhanced methodologies and standardized analytical processes to scale the function.

SECONDARY DATA EXPERTISE

Candidates should have hands-on experience working with a broad range of pharmaceutical secondary data sources, including:

Sales & Prescription Data

  • IQVIA: NPA, NSP, DDD, XPONENT, LAAD — national and sub-national Rx and sales trends
  • KOMODO: Integrated claims-based Rx and patient-level data
  • MMIT / Managed Markets Insight & Technology: formulary, payer access, and patient out-of-pocket data

Field Force & Commercial Execution Data

  • CRM data (e.g., Veeva CRM): HCP call activity, call plan adherence, reach & frequency, next best action (NBA) outputs
  • Sample management and drug sample disbursement records
  • Incentive compensation (IC) data and sales force effectiveness (SFE) metrics
  • Territory alignment, field roster, and targeting data
  • Speaker program and medical education event attendance logs

Market & Patient Analytics

  • Patient services and hub data: patient start forms, prior authorizations, adherence and persistency metrics
  • Real-world evidence (RWE) and claims data: IQVIA LAAD, Optum
  • Market share and share-of-voice analytics by segment, channel, and geography
  • Specialty pharmacy (SP) and specialty distributor (SD) dispense and inventory data

Digital & Omnichannel Data

  • HCP digital engagement data: email open/click rates, portal visits, webinar attendance, remote detailing metrics
  • Omnichannel orchestration data linking field, digital, and patient touchpoints
  • Marketing campaign performance data: media mix, channel ROI, DTC/HCP campaign analytics

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate degree and 3+ years of commercial analytics experience, OR
  • Master's degree and 6+ years of commercial analytics experienc
