Job Overview And Responsibilities

This individual manages the portfolio of efficiency and operational reliability projects in work across the Flight Operations Division. This Senior Manager leads and develops a multinational team of analysts and data scientists responsible for delivering detailed statistical data analysis, data visualizations, and actionable reporting of operational reliability, efficiency, productivity, safety, training, and performance.

  • Understands key flight operations business drivers while leading projects impacting the flight operations and key business stakeholders. Identifiable reports are used to improve decision-making, reliability and efficiency in areas of business, safety, training, operations, and maintenance affecting flight operations.
  • Collaborates with Digital Technology and adjacent Operational teams to analyze, track, and predict areas of performance while providing visibility through data and visualizations of the progress across a range of initiatives
  • Coordinates with stakeholders in United’s Safety Management System (SMS) to integrate performance and safety-related initiatives with real-time data analytics
  • Ensure that Flight Operations reporting tools and reports are updated and maintained to allow the Air Operations Team and Flight Operations Leadership team the ability to reliably and effectively evaluate the operational integrity of the division.
  • Attracts, leads, and develops a team of subject matter experts in maintaining complex analytics, project planning, and execution, and creating database and programmatic solutions for fuel efficiency and operational reliability problems.
  • Leads and prioritizes work to deliver high-value strategic projects for Flight Operations, while maintaining data accuracy (single source of truth), timeliness, and reliability in high-stakes decision contexts.
  • Foster close working relationships with cross-divisional Analytics teams in pursuit of higher efficiency and reliability levels.
  • Up to 25% travel to domestic or international United Airlines locations.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information systems, engineering, or another quantitative field (i.e. mathematics, statistics, economics, etc.)
  • 6+ years of experience in analytics and data science
  • Ability to study/understand Flight Operations business needs, then design a data/technology solutions that connect business processes, Safety Management Systems obligations, and performance objectives with quantifiable outcomes
  • Advanced knowledge of data warehousing, ETL pipelines, and BI platforms.
  • Understanding and competency with data governance and data quality management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with predictive modeling and optimization methods to include regression models, time-series forecasting, Monte Carlo, and linear programming.
  • Experience with Data Visualization development using one or more of the reporting tools (i.e. Spotfire, Tableau, Python, HTML, Javascript, Power Automate, Spark Node, etc.) for queries, procedures, dashboards and final formatted reporting in an email format.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work and lead across multiple teams and divisions
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Master’s degree or 6 years of relevant work experience
  • 9 + years of experience in analytics and data science
  • Experience maintaining complex analytics, project planning and execution, and creating database and programmatic solutions to fuel efficiency and reliability problems
  • Palantir or Tibco Certifications
  • Previous airline experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate with executive-level leadership

The base pay range for this role is $127,870.00 to $166,492.00.
