Our client, a leading innovator in advanced manufacturing, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Manufacturing Automation Engineer to enhance production efficiency and implement state-of-the-art automation solutions. This is a crucial on-site role where you will be responsible for designing, developing, installing, and commissioning automated systems for our manufacturing facilities. You will work with cross-functional teams, including controls engineers, mechanical designers, and production staff, to integrate robotics, PLCs, HMI systems, and other automation technologies. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in industrial automation, a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, and a passion for driving operational excellence.
Responsibilities: Design, develop, and implement automated manufacturing systems to improve efficiency, quality, and safety. Select, program, and integrate Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Design and implement robotic work cells, including robot programming (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB) and end-of-arm tooling. Develop electrical schematics and control system designs for automated equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing automation systems to minimize downtime. Collaborate with mechanical engineers and designers to ensure seamless integration of automation components. Manage automation projects from conception through installation and validation, ensuring on-time and on-budget completion. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including control system documentation, operating manuals, and validation reports. Conduct feasibility studies and recommend appropriate automation technologies. Train maintenance and operations personnel on automated systems and troubleshooting procedures. Ensure compliance with all relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, CSA). Stay current with advancements in automation technology, robotics, and industrial control systems. Participate in the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes through automation initiatives. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing automation engineering, with a strong focus on system design and implementation. Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA development. Experience with industrial robotics programming and integration. Strong understanding of electrical schematics, control system architecture, and safety circuits. Experience with vision systems, sensors, and motion control. Familiarity with networking protocols commonly used in industrial automation (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet). Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills. Strong project management skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Experience with CAD software for electrical design is a plus. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles is advantageous. This role requires a hands-on engineer dedicated to leveraging cutting-edge automation to optimize manufacturing operations.
