Position: Materials Science Expert

Type: Contract

Compensation: $85–$93/hour

Location: Remote

Commitment: 20 hours/week

Role Responsibilities

  • Author and review technical tasks to evaluate AI model performance in materials science.
  • Develop original problem sets using phase diagrams, micrographs, and stress-strain curves.
  • Write reference solutions and apply structured quality checks to ensure task quality.
  • Annotate tasks with detailed insights to improve AI model outputs.
  • Work independently and asynchronously with a flexible schedule.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or related field; MS with 3+ years experience; or BS with 5+ years experience.
  • Working fluency in at least two of: phase equilibria, mechanical behavior, crystallography, polymers, or characterization (XRD, SEM, TEM).
  • Comfortable interpreting micrographs, diffraction patterns, and property charts.

Preferred

  • Publication record or industry R&D track.
