The Strategic Defense Solution engineering organization in Richardson, TX is is seeking a highly motivated Senior Level Mechanical Engineer that is passionate about the development of electronics equipment enclosures and integration of items into rack level assemblies. These designs will contain a mixture of high-power componentry and radio frequency (RF) shielding considerations in addition to challenging size, weight, and power dissipation requirements.

This position will require ownership of budget and schedule as well as coordination with a highly cross‑functional team to ensure quality and compliance of designs throughout the entirety of their life cycles. The selected candidate will be instrumental in driving innovation in the design, development, and test of electronic equipment supporting military communications missions.

This is an ONSITE

-SAP position located in Richardson, TX.

What You Will Do:

  • Communicate technical topics and issues in a clear and concise manner to both technical peers as well as non-technical team members.
  • Conduct and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews. Mentor and document knowledge to provide technical guidance to both members of own team and beyond.
  • Coordinate with drafting for the creation of drawings, along with providing review and redline of drawings for machined & sheet metal parts.
  • Interface with a cross functional team, such as Electrical and Systems engineering, to ensure requirements compliance throughout the entirety of a product’s lifecycle.
  • Work proactively with an integrated product team (IPT) to manage project scope and budget, as well as identify risks and opportunities.
  • Participate in and lead investigations into highly complex, open-ended tasks. Search for and identify root cause of issues.
  • Create military compliant designs that incorporate custom machined/sheet metal parts with a selection of commercial off the shelf items as required.
  • Contribute to prototyping and testing activities to verify product requirements compliance.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Background in commercial industry standards and military electronics packaging form factors, chassis design, and electromechanical applications.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.
  • Practical experience in design and thermal management techniques for electronics packaging designs (enclosures and/or racks) with rigorous size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements.
  • Can apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
  • Knowledge of military standards such as MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, and MIL-STD-1472.
  • Experience working with form factor industry standards such as EIA-310, ATR, or VITA.
  • Familiar with thermal and structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) best practices. (Ansys).
