Senior Mechanical Engineer (PE), Houston, TX or The Woodlands, TX
Halff is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a Texas PE license to join our growing MEP Engineering team in one of our Houston area offices (The Woodlands or Houston). The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering design using Trane Trace 700 or a similar energy‑modeling tool. Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the design and construction of mechanical engineering projects
- Plan and prepare engineered contract documentation, work with or as a mechanical project manager to meet deadlines, provide engineering decisions, and collaborate with other engineers or owners
- Create mechanical and plumbing project construction documents, plans, and specifications
- Analyze relevant materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other geological and topographical data to plan projects
- Conduct on‑site visits to collect existing condition information, attend meetings, respond to construction inquiries, generate observation reports, review shop drawings, and answer RFIs
- Assist in developing and maintaining client relationships
- Manage the complete design of mechanical projects
- Use design software and drawing tools to accurately render and communicate designs
- Consult with and provide guidance to project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction, modifications, and repairs
- Report and present plans to audiences with diverse backgrounds and technical levels, translating complex engineering information into digestible concepts
- Estimate materials, equipment, and labor needed to determine project costs
- Collaborate with surveyors (or direct and participate in surveying) to establish installation reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors affecting construction
- Monitor project progress and ensure design specifications, safety, and sanitation standards are met
- Conduct and manage design and plan production
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers, EITs, and technical staff, fostering a culture of trust and collaboration within the project team
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or an ABET‑accredited equivalent engineering degree
- Texas Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in mechanical engineering design using Trane Trace 700 or similar energy‑modeling tools
- Experience with large central plant systems a plus
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Design‑build experience a plus
- Ability to manage large‑scale projects
