Senior Mechanical Engineer – Role Overview
We have a client seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a hybrid role in San Diego, CA. The role supports the design and development of high-volume wireless mobile and fixed communication products, leading mechanical design from concept through production, delivering robust, manufacturable, IP67 compliant solutions.
Responsibilities Lead mechanical design for indoor and outdoor wireless products from concept through production Design plastic injection molded, sheet metal, die cast, and rubber components for high volume manufacturing Develop IP67 compliant sealed designs, including gasket and sealing solutions Create complex 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings using Creo/ProENGINEER Drive prototype builds, coordinate with vendors, and manage part ordering Independently plan, manage, and prioritize multiple projects while providing status updates to leadership Compile and analyze design and test data; prepare technical documentation and specifications Collaborate cross functionally to support thermal, EMI, and ESD analysis as needed Clearly communicate design tradeoffs, proposals, and recommendations to stakeholders Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering 6‑8+ years of experience designing plastic injection molded, sheet metal, and die cast parts 6‑8+ years of hands‑on experience with Creo/ProENGINEER and Windchill PLM (or similar) 7+ years of experience in product design or mechanical engineering for consumer electronics or similar high volume products Experience designing sealed/waterproof (IP67) products Strong understanding of tolerance analysis (RSS) Experience with thermal simulation (Flotherm preferred) Experience with FEA tools (Creo Mechanica preferred) Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with internal teams, vendors, and contract manufacturers (domestic and international) Willingness to travel internationally as needed Nice to Have Handheld or portable device experience (wearables, smartphones, mobile electronics) Experience with wireless products in consumer electronics, automotive, military, or defense environments Background in mobile device battery packaging or touchscreen mechanical structures Pay & Benefits
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. Employee pay is based on factors such as education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
