This position will support the plant’s automation, instrumentation, PLC, HMI, SCADA, electrical, and control systems. The role may be filled at either a strong technician level or a senior level, depending on experience.
This is not a desk-based controls role. The work is primarily field-based and involves troubleshooting directly at equipment, panels, instruments, process systems, and remote facilities.
What You’ll Do
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, control panels, communication networks, and related automation equipment
- Work with Allen-Bradley PLCs, Studio 5000, RSLogix, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, and PanelView HMIs
- Perform field diagnostics on control panels, telemetry I/O, control loops, instruments, and automated process equipment
- Configure or modify PLC logic, HMI screens, and SCADA interfaces as needed
- Support preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, repairs, installations, and system upgrades
- Work with operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractors on process and control system improvements
- Maintain technical documentation, drawings, maintenance records, and system configuration information
- At the senior level, lead complex troubleshooting, support PLC/SCADA upgrades, assist with commissioning, and provide technical guidance to other team members
What We’re Looking For
- Hands-on experience with industrial controls, instrumentation, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and electrical troubleshooting
- Experience in wastewater, water treatment, utilities, manufacturing, food/beverage, chemical processing, or another industrial process environment
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley controls platforms is strongly preferred
- Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop diagrams, panel drawings, and technical documentation
- Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical, electronic, pneumatic, mechanical, and instrumentation systems
- Ability to work safely in a plant environment and communicate well with operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractors
Background That Fits
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree or technical training in instrumentation, electronics, automation, electrical technology, or a related field preferred
- 2+ years of relevant controls, instrumentation, electrical, or industrial maintenance experience required
- 4+ years of relevant experience preferred for senior-level consideration
- Valid California driver’s license required
- CWEA Electrical/Instrumentation certification or ISA Control Systems Technician certification is a plus, or the ability to obtain required certification after hire
Why This Role
This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on controls work in a real plant environment. You’ll support critical infrastructure, work with complex automation systems, and help keep essential operations running safely and reliably.
