Job Description

Our client, a leading force in renewable energy technology, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Power Electronics Engineer to join their innovative team in Durham, North Carolina, US . This role offers a hybrid work model, combining valuable in-office collaboration with the flexibility of remote work. You will be at the forefront of designing, developing, and testing cutting-edge power conversion systems for a range of applications, including energy storage and grid-tied inverters. Your responsibilities will encompass all phases of the product development lifecycle, from initial concept and topology selection through to component design, circuit simulation, PCB layout, and final validation. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of power semiconductor devices, magnetic components, control strategies, and EMI/EMC principles. You will work closely with firmware and mechanical engineers to ensure seamless integration and optimal system performance. Key tasks include performing detailed circuit analysis, conducting thermal management studies, and utilizing advanced simulation tools. The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will also play a role in troubleshooting complex design issues, optimizing designs for efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, and ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop high-efficiency power converter topologies (e.g., DC-DC, DC-AC). Select and evaluate power semiconductor devices, magnetic components, and passive components. Create detailed schematics and PCB layouts for power electronic circuits. Perform circuit simulations using tools such as SPICE or MATLAB/Simulink. Develop and implement control algorithms for power converters. Conduct thermal analysis and design appropriate cooling solutions. Perform EMI/EMC analysis and mitigation. Develop and execute test plans for power electronic prototypes. Troubleshoot and debug hardware issues. Collaborate with firmware and mechanical engineering teams on system integration. Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Electronics. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in power electronics design. Strong understanding of power semiconductor devices (MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC, GaN). Proficiency in power electronics simulation tools and methodologies. Experience with control system design and implementation for power converters. Knowledge of magnetic component design and winding techniques. Familiarity with EMI/EMC standards and mitigation techniques. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Experience working in a hybrid environment is advantageous.
