Our client, a leading innovator in the chemical industry, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Development Engineer for their **Toronto, Ontario, CA** location. This role is integral to the advancement of chemical processes, focusing on research, development, scale-up, and optimization of new and existing chemical manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong theoretical and practical understanding of chemical engineering principles, coupled with hands-on experience in process design, troubleshooting, and implementation. You will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and developing robust, efficient, and safe chemical processes. This includes pilot plant operation, process simulation, and the development of detailed engineering documentation. Key responsibilities involve collaborating with R&D teams, plant operations, and engineering disciplines to translate laboratory findings into commercially viable processes. You will identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and yield enhancement. The Senior Process Development Engineer will also play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality control measures. Troubleshooting complex process issues, developing corrective actions, and validating process changes are also key aspects of this position. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment is essential. Responsibilities: Design, develop, and optimize chemical processes for new and existing products. Conduct laboratory and pilot plant experiments to evaluate process viability. Analyze experimental data and develop detailed process descriptions and PFDs/P&IDs. Perform process simulations and modeling to predict performance and identify improvements. Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues in manufacturing environments. Collaborate with R&D, operations, and engineering teams to ensure successful scale-up. Develop and implement process safety assessments (e.g., HAZOP). Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. Identify opportunities for cost reduction, yield improvement, and waste minimization. Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations. Mentor junior process engineers and contribute to technical training. Stay abreast of new technologies and best practices in chemical process engineering. Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in process development and scale-up. Strong knowledge of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and unit operations. Experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS). Proficiency in experimental design and data analysis. Experience with pilot plant operations and troubleshooting. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental compliance. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team. Understanding of quality control systems and GMP (if applicable).
