Senior Process Mechanical Engineer – Wastewater & Water Reuse
Location: California (Hybrid / Remote with Local Project Travel)
We are seeking a Senior Process Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of municipal wastewater treatment and advanced water reuse facilities across California. This role is ideal for a hands‑on technical leader who can take projects from concept through IFC, translate process modeling into buildable designs, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead process design development for wastewater and advanced water treatment facilities from concept through Issued for Construction (IFC)
- Develop and execute process simulations (e.g., BioWin or equivalent)
- Design and optimize biological treatment and BNR systems, including:
- MBR, MBBR, SBR, IFAS
- Bardenpho, MLE, oxidation ditches
- Design and integrate advanced treatment and water reuse systems, including:
- MF / UF, NF, RO, and AOP
- Translate process models into detailed deliverables:
- Hydraulic profiles, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment sizing, and layouts
- Lead equipment selection and system design for:
- Pumps, blowers, aeration systems, reactors, membrane systems, chemical dosing
- Coordinate closely with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and I&C teams
- Participate in design reviews, resolve technical challenges, and support commissioning/startup as needed
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal engineering standards
- Support proposals and project pursuits, including technical narratives, preliminary sizing, and cost inputs
What We’re Looking For
- 10–15+ years of experience designing municipal wastewater and water reclamation facilities
- Strong background in process modeling, preferably BioWin
- Proven experience delivering designs from concept through IFC
- Deep expertise in BNR and biological treatment systems
- Solid experience with advanced membrane treatment and reuse projects
- Ability to independently produce and review:
- PFDs, P&IDs, hydraulic profiles, and process calculations
- Experience working in California regulatory and municipal environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering
- PE license preferred (California strongly preferred or eligible)
