We are on the lookout for a highly skilled Senior Research Engineer to drive innovation in agent planning, reasoning processes, and the implementation of multi-step reasoning systems across Oracle's AI Data platform and its intelligent applications. In this role, you will research, architect, and prototype cutting-edge techniques for agent planning and orchestration, focusing on methods such as hierarchical planning, tool routing, and efficient reasoning systems to enhance performance metrics like latency, cost-effectiveness, and reliability for enterprise workloads. You will also design auditable reasoning systems that ensure verification and validation to produce trustworthy outcomes in production. Collaborating closely with applied scientists, research engineers, and product teams, you will transition successful lab findings into impactful production solutions.

This role demands extensive expertise in agentic and generative AI, particularly in the realms of planning and multi-step reasoning. Practical skills with modern ML/LLM stacks (e.g., Python, PyTorch, JAX, transformers) and system optimization techniques are essential. Familiarity with post-training methods and symbolic-neural hybrid approaches will be beneficial for effective collaboration with modeling and platform teams.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside applied scientists and research engineers to design, develop, and evaluate agent planning and multi-step reasoning solutions tailored to enterprise needs for accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and latency.
• Implement advanced agent planning algorithms and robust tool orchestration with dependable verification and fallback strategies.
• Create production-quality inference and orchestration pipelines with enhanced observability, tracing, and telemetry.
• Develop methods for optimizing efficiency to improve throughput and stability under varied traffic conditions.
• Establish rigorous evaluation frameworks for assessing reasoning quality and robustness.
• Collaborate with data engineers to set guidelines for the collection and curation of training signals.
• Work closely with product and platform teams to launch secure, compliant, and reliable features in our applications.
• Identify new research opportunities and keep abreast of emerging technologies in planning and reasoning.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field (PhD preferred).
• Industry experience in AI, generative AI, or machine learning with a focus on agent planning and reasoning.
• A solid publication record in leading conferences is a plus.
• Hands-on experience transitioning reasoning systems from prototypes to production.
• Strong understanding of LLMs and agent frameworks, including planning methods and reliability techniques.
• Experience with model optimization techniques and proficiency in Python and modern ML stacks.
• Expertise in evaluating reasoning quality and familiarity with relevant datasets.
• Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of alignment methods and compliance best practices for enterprise AI solutions.
