Our client, a pioneering biotechnology company focused on developing novel therapeutics, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Scientist specializing in Computational Biology. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research from anywhere in the US. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in bioinformatics, statistical analysis, and machine learning applied to biological data. You will play a critical role in analyzing large-scale omics datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics), identifying novel drug targets, and developing predictive models for therapeutic response. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing computational strategies, developing and validating algorithms, collaborating with experimental biologists and chemists, and contributing to scientific publications and patent applications. You will be expected to independently drive research projects, mentor junior scientists, and present findings at internal and external meetings. This role requires a PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field, coupled with significant post-doctoral or industry experience. Exceptional programming skills (e.g., Python, R) and experience with high-performance computing environments are essential.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and execution of computational biology projects to identify and validate therapeutic targets. Analyze large-scale omics datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, etc.) using advanced bioinformatics tools and methodologies. Develop and implement statistical models and machine learning algorithms for data analysis and prediction. Collaborate closely with experimental research teams to integrate computational findings with wet-lab experiments. Develop and maintain robust pipelines for data processing, analysis, and visualization. Interpret complex biological data and translate findings into actionable insights for drug discovery and development. Contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, and intellectual property filings. Mentor and guide junior computational biologists and data scientists. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in computational biology, bioinformatics, and related fields. Manage project timelines and resources effectively in a remote research setting.
Qualifications:
PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. 5+ years of relevant research experience post-PhD, either in academia or industry. Demonstrated expertise in analyzing large-scale biological datasets (e.g., next-generation sequencing data). Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics, such as Python and R. Experience with bioinformatics databases, tools, and software packages. Strong understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, and data mining techniques. Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and high-performance computing environments. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific information clearly. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote research environment.
