Our client, a global leader in specialty chemicals, is seeking an exceptional Senior Research Scientist specializing in Polymer Chemistry to join their cutting-edge R&D facility in Dallas, Texas, US . This role is essential for driving innovation and developing next-generation polymer materials. The scientist will be responsible for conceiving, designing, and executing research projects, from fundamental investigations to applied product development. This position requires a deep understanding of polymer synthesis, characterization, and structure-property relationships. You will work in state-of-the-art laboratories, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and contribute significantly to the company's intellectual property portfolio.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and conduct advanced research in polymer chemistry, focusing on novel monomer synthesis, polymerization techniques, and material formulation. Design and execute experimental plans to investigate and develop new polymer materials with specific desired properties. Characterize polymers using a range of analytical techniques including GPC, NMR, FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM, TEM, rheology, and mechanical testing. Interpret complex experimental data, draw conclusions, and provide strategic recommendations for future research directions. Develop structure-property relationships and utilize this knowledge to tailor polymer performance for specific applications. Collaborate with product development teams, manufacturing, and technical service to ensure successful scale-up and commercialization of new materials. Author technical reports, patent applications, and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Mentor junior scientists and technicians, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and innovation. Stay abreast of the latest advancements and trends in polymer science and related fields. Manage research projects effectively, ensuring timely completion within budget constraints. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field. Minimum of 5-7 years of post-doctoral or industrial research experience in polymer chemistry. Proven expertise in various polymerization methods (e.g., free radical, anionic, cationic, condensation) and polymer characterization techniques. Strong understanding of polymer physics, material properties, and structure-property relationships. Demonstrated ability to design and execute complex research projects independently. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Superb written and verbal communication skills, with experience in technical writing and presenting research findings. Experience with computational modeling or simulation of polymers is a plus. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative laboratory environment.
