Job Description

The Senior Risk Analyst supports the Institutional Insurance Policies & Programs department, which manages MD Anderson's comprehensive portfolio of insurance programs and claim processes to protect institutional assets, minimize financial exposure, and ensure continuity of operations. The Institutional Insurance Policies & Programs department provides policy interpretation, coverage analysis, claims advocacy, and technical guidance to departments across the hospital, with involvement ranging from property damage and builders' risk to media liability and specialized coverages such as event liability, research equipment, and cyber liability.

The Senior Risk Analyst plays a key role at MD Anderson Cancer Center, a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. In this role, the Senior Risk Analyst contributes to the development of a comprehensive institutional risk management program and supports operational resilience across the organization while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external partners.

The ideal candidate for the Senior Risk Analyst role has a strong educational background in business, risk management, safety, or a related field, combined with significant professional experience in commercial insurance and risk analysis. Preferred candidates bring advanced education, professional certifications in risk management, insurance, or safety, and the ability to communicate effectively with insurance professionals, legal counsel, stakeholders, and senior leadership while developing practical risk mitigation strategies.

Minimum $92,500.00 - Midpoint $115,500- Maximum $138,500.00

The typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Work location: Houston, TX, with a hybrid onsite/remote arrangement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Insurance Program Administration

  • Coordinate insurance programs, including gathering underwriting data, negotiating policy provisions, procuring insurance policies, and maintaining insurance coverage
  • Track, initiate, and support insurance claims procedures
  • Review certificates of insurance and verify the financial condition of insurers as requested

Risk Transfer and Contract Support

  • Serve as subject-matter expert in contract insurance and risk transfer for UT System Administration and collaborating departments
  • Collaborate in the negotiation of contracts with outside vendors and recommend appropriate insurance scope and provisions

Consultation and Advisory Services

  • Respond to requests and provide consulting services related to insurance coverage reviews and coverage interpretations

Program Development and Training

  • Develop insurance program processes and procedures for implementation of system-wide insurance programs
  • Develop and deliver training seminars related to property and casualty insurance programs

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Lead and advise lower-level professionals within the Office of Risk Management
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Safety, or related field
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Safety, or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in a related field and 6 years of related experience in risk management, risk analysis, commercial insurance, or commercial real estate appraisal
  • Preferred: Previous experience administering loss prevention and claims management programs in the construction industry. Each additional year of experience beyond the required minimum may be substituted for one year of college (30 semester hours) on a year-for-year basis
