Job Title:
Scientist / Senior scientist – In Vivo Electrophysiology
Company Overview
Syndeio Bio is a synapse-focused biotechnology company pioneering a new class of therapies for neuropsychiatric and cognitive disorders. We believe the key to unlocking better treatments lies in the precise modulation of synaptic transmission and plasticity. Our research engine integrates high-density in vivo electrophysiology with behavioral neuroscience to validate therapeutic candidates. We offer a collaborative, high-stakes research environment where your data directly influences the development of next-generation medicines.
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to support our in vivo neuroscience research program. The successful candidate(s) will conduct in vivo electrophysiological recordings in freely moving rat or mouse models and contribute across multiple stages of experimental execution. Responsibilities include small-animal neurosurgical procedures, animal care, electrophysiological data acquisition and analysis, and tissue processing.
This position is ideal for candidates with hands-on in vivo electrophysiology experience who are eager to build a strong foundation in in vivo neuroscience and translational research.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform rodent survival surgeries, including electrode implantation and post-operative monitoring
- Design and execute in vivo electrophysiological recordings (e.g., single-unit recordings, field EPSPs, and/or EEG) to evaluate the effects of selected compounds on neuronal activities
- Manage animal care, behavioral monitoring, and experimental preparation in compliance with IACUC protocols
- Perform electrophysiological data acquisition, processing, and basic quantitative analysis
- Conduct tissue dissection, sample preparation, and support downstream analyses
- Maintain accurate experimental records and organize datasets
- Collaborate with scientists to optimize experimental protocols and troubleshoot technical challenges
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience (or a Master’s with 5+ years of high-level industry experience)
- Proven expertise in in vivo electrophysiological recording and data analysis
- Practical experience with stereotaxic surgery techniques
- Hands-on experience conducting rodent research, including animal handling and compound administration
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment
Preferred / Plus
- Experience designing or building custom electrophysiology rigs
- Experience with animal models of neuropsychiatric disorders
- Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., SciWorks, BrainVision, pCLAMP, MATLAB)
- Molecular biology or biochemical experience (e.g., Western blot, qPCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry)
- Interest in bridging the gap between preclinical rodent "spikes" and human clinical outcomes
