About the role

Original posting from Commure via Ashby

At Commure, we're building the AI Operating System for healthcare, the foundation that defines how care is delivered, documented, and financed. Our platform spans the full care journey: Ambient AI and Dictation eliminating documentation burden at the point of care, intelligent Agents automating patient and revenue workflows, and autonomous RCM processing billions in claims, all on a single AI-native platform integrated with 60+ EHRs.

Healthcare carries a $1 trillion administrative burden and we're at the center of transforming it. Today, 500,000+ clinicians across 500+ healthcare organizations nationwide trust Commure to handle $25B+ in annual claims and support over 200 million patient interactions. Our latest $70M raise at a $7B valuation reflects the confidence the market has placed in this mission.

Our team works directly alongside clinicians, not through layers of process, which means the gap between what you build and its impact on patient care is immediate. We move fast, deploy daily, and take full ownership from early thinking to production. If you're energized by hard problems, high stakes, and a team that holds itself to a high bar, you'll find your people here.

The future of healthcare is being built right now. Come deliver this transformation.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our R&D team at Commure, the team taking emerging technology from inception to impact. We scout new capabilities — a frontier LLM that can chain tool calls, browser agents that can navigate the web, new agent harnesses that can self improve — and figure out how to productionize them for healthcare. Our job is the full arc: research the technology, productize it, deliver it to customers, and own it as a P&L until it graduates.

Graduation has taken the following shapes in the past:

  • Embedded into an existing product — e.g., the AI Copilot in our practice management suite.
  • Becomes its own product — e.g., Air, the EHR.
  • Becomes an internal RCM workflow that saves the company millions annually — e.g., EOB web agents and appeal agents.

This role will be hybrid and based in our Mountain View, CA headquarters.

What You'll Do

  • Build the infrastructure that orchestrates, evaluates, and runs sub-agents, including the channel adapters that intelligence flows through
  • Get hands-on with the cutting edge — chaining tool calls across LLMs, deploying browser agents, building self-improving harnesses — and turn experimental prototypes into production-level tools and products
  • Take a technology from first principles to production: research it, build it into a product, ship it to customers, and own it through graduation to something bigger
  • Establish best practices for code quality, testing, deployment, and observability
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and clinical experts to ship intuitive solutions that work in real clinical environments
  • Be part of a fast-moving team that celebrates large ambition, ships daily, and makes decisions quickly

What You Have

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience, required
  • Professional software engineering experience, ideally in a high-growth or startup environment
  • Strong fullstack skills — Python on the backend (required), Javascript/React on the frontend, with working knowledge of containers and cloud (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs or building AI-powered features in production
  • Track record of driving work from early ideation to successful production deployment
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills with a history of demonstrated resourcefulness
  • Strong communication skills — comfortable working with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders including clinical teams
  • Experience in fast-moving environments where shipping quickly is the norm
