Senior Software Quality Engineer, Release Testing

Do you want to help make the world safe from cyber attack?

At Corelight, we believe that the best approach to cybersecurity risk starts with the network. Attackers can evade endpoint detection, firewalls and many other technologies - but they can’t avoid leaving digital footprints on the networks they traverse. Built on open-source innovations from Zeek, Suricata and YARA and refined through years of real-world use, Corelight transforms network footprints from physical, virtual and cloud networks into actionable insights. Our customers use these insights to speed incident response and proactively hunt for threats.

As the Senior Software Quality Engineer for our Release Testing team, you serve as the critical final gatekeeper for our Open NDR platform. You will ensure that the actionable insights generated by Zeek, Suricata, and YARA are delivered with absolute reliability to our global customers. By orchestrating complex, real-world network scenarios across cloud and on-prem environments, you bridge the gap between infrastructure and deep network analysis to ensure that defenders have a robust foundation to hunt threats and disrupt attacks.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Drive the End-to-End Testing Lifecycle: Act as the final technical authority on product quality, leading the strategy for stable, high-performance releases across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Architect Scalable Test Infrastructure: Design and maintain high-fidelity test environments across on-prem, virtual, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) using Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform).
  • Develop Advanced Automation: Build and optimize sophisticated automated test frameworks and utility scripts using Python and Bash to ensure fast, reliable feedback loops.
  • Continuous Quality Integration: Manage test code within Git and seamlessly integrate automated suites into CI/CD workflows to modernize our release cadence.
  • Network Protocol Deep-Dive: Perform expert-level analysis of network traffic (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, SSL/TLS) to design realistic test scenarios that mimic sophisticated production environments.
  • Cross-Functional Triage: Partner with Development, Product Management, and the global QE organization to identify, prioritize, and resolve bottlenecks in the release pipeline.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities needed to be successful:

  • Proactive Problem-Solving: You are a proactive problem solver who doesn’t wait for instructions to address a bottleneck; you explore the "how" and "why" of system failures.
  • Collaborative Leadership: You have a proven ability to lead testing efforts across multiple teams, managing priorities effectively even when timelines or requirements are ambiguous.
  • Systems Thinking: You can visualize how complex network protocols and security insights interact across a geographically distributed, distributed-system architecture.
  • High-Fidelity Mentality: You take pride in being the final gatekeeper, ensuring that every release is robust enough to protect the mission-critical assets of our global customers.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Experience: 5–10 years of professional experience in Software Quality Engineering, SDET, or Systems Engineering roles.
  • Automation Mastery: High proficiency in Python and Bash for infrastructure automation and tool development.
  • Cloud & IaC Expertise: Hands-on experience with Ansible and Terraform, as well as production experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Networking Foundations: Deep working knowledge of Linux administration (RHEL/Ubuntu) and core protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, and SSL/TLS.
  • SIEM Proficiency: Hands-on experience with security analytics tools such as Splunk, Elastic, or Microsoft Sentinel.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related fields, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Preferred Differentiators: Experience with Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD pipeline optimization, or familiarity with Zeek, Suricata, and YARA.

Fueled by investments from top-tier venture capital organizations such as Crowdstrike, Accel and Insight, Corelight is the fastest growing network detection and response platform in the industry. Our customers trust us to protect mission-critical assets in leading enterprises, government, and research institutions worldwide. We are leading the way with AI-assisted workflows, machine learning models, cloud security and SaaS-based solutions to arm defenders with the tools and knowledge they need to disrupt cyber attacks. Our team of passionate innovators are dedicated to solving some of the toughest challenges in cybersecurity, while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-oriented culture. Corelight is committed to a geographically distributed yet connected employee base with employees working from home and office locations around the world. At Corelight, we take pride in the diversity of our backgrounds and p
