GEICO seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer to design, build, and scale the Substantiation Platform—systems that validate and reconcile financial data across enterprise sources, supporting controls, compliance, and auditability at high volume. You will work with Finance, Compliance, Product, the Financial Data Warehouse, and ERP-aligned teams to deliver reliable reconciliation services, clear data lineage, and integrate source systems with financial reporting and GL-related ERP workflows. Responsibilities As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will: Provide technical and architectural leadership for substantiation and reconciliation services, APIs, and related data paths. Build scalable, secure, highly available software for matching, exceptions, and financial controls. Drive modernization initiatives—including evolution away from legacy reconciliation and financial systems. Own solutions end-to-end—design through production—including quality, reliability, performance, and observability. Align with Product, Finance, Compliance, and Treasury on requirements and operational outcomes. Mentor engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning; influence leadership at multiple levels through clear articulation of tradeoffs and roadmaps. Qualifications Fluency and specialization with at least one modern language such as Java, C#, or Go Microservices / SOA, REST and gRPC (or comparable APIs), solid SQL and relational design at scale Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), CI/CD, containers, IaC, and production DevOps/observability practices Proven architecture and design for distributed, data-heavy systems; strong production troubleshooting Excellent communication with technical and non-technical partners; Agile delivery experience Expertise in complex problem-solving autonomy, including troubleshooting critical production issues and devising creative, scalable technical solutions under pressure Experience 10+ years software development with staff/principal-level impact. 8+ years leading architecture and large initiatives with cross-functional technical leadership. 6+ years cloud-native / distributed systems in production. 5+ years high-volume data, reconciliation, or financial/payments/ledger-adjacent systems. 4+ years major cloud platform. Preferred Financial services / insurance; ERP/GL familiarity. Kafka / Snowflake / Airflow; Python/PySpark/Snowpark a plus. Education Bachelor’s or Master’s in CS, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent experience. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
